Explorer II, any speculation?

Probably already asked so forgive me if I've overlooked it but Rolex instagram has been posting an awful lot of the 216570 Explorer II in both dial variations. Could just be run of the mill marketing but in the past hasn't increased visibility been a harbinger?

Curious what the forums thoughts are

I don’t know, but it’s a nice reference and very understated and probably more so than any of there other models a true tool watch

Probably not. In the months leading up to Basel 2017, Rolex did an Instagram push for the GMT. Coke heads thought sure a new Coke was coming (as they do every year), but nothing happened at all with the model that year. Sometimes, Rolex just likes to single out a model for attention.

It is impossible to read into Rolex advertising these days. Seems like every commercial I have seen on TV lately (mostly during sporting events) focuses on famous wearers and then ends with a shot of a DJ.

On the Exp II: always been a low seller. As a result, especially right now, that model is probably easier to get. If you can't get your hands on a SD or LVC and are hankering for a new Rolex, maybe a push from Instagram will make you buy whats available now and sit on the waiting list for what you are really after.

A ceramic Exp II has been "predicted" for as long as I have been reading "predictions."

My personal opinion is that Explorer ii polar will be worth a pretty penny in a few decades. I also think that a 50th anniversary will appear in 2021.

Maybe because the new Rolex magazine #8 has an Explorer II as the feature watch.

I reckon its the year of the explorer II to be updated. Been a while since this watch had any new upgrades or changes

Maybe because it's one of the only easy-ish to get SS models at the moment.

I personally love this model, especially the polar version. I think it’s the perfect size for me. In fact I wish they would increase the GMT Master II to 42 mm. My guess is they’ll wait till the 50th anniversary to make any substantial changes

Just a guess... Some time in 2019/2020 the new movement shows up in the current body, 2021 the orange hand is replaced with a green hand, orange "EXPLORER II" text is changed to green. And somewhere in there is a price increase.

Do you guys think the Explorer II would look nice with a ceramic bezel? Not sure how that would look on a black dial?

Whos good with photoshop?

Right. It's a mock-up of an imaginary model.

The polar "Ceramic Explorer II" does not look to bad.

This was my thought. Just trying to get people excited about something they may actually be able to buy.
