Does Your Watchmaker Know?

Do repetitive motions cause identifiable wear on a watch's movement? I was swimming laps earlier this morning and was wondering while looking at the black line if repetitive wear could be recognized in a movement as being caused by certain activities? Does Rolex Service know which of us play a whole lot of golf? Just curious. Thanks.

By "playing a whole lot of golf", you really mean another rigerous wrist flicking activity that you enjoy...

Reversing wheels and the rotor/axle/pinion will show more wear with higher amounts of wrist activity. But, I doubt your watchmaker will be able to identify exactly what you're doing with your wrist. That's between you and your watch.

Are the wrist jokes getting old yet?

It's all in good fun. It's a fair question to ask.

I can tell exactly what you do, how long you do it, and what day you do it on...all by tearing down your movements. I see EVERYTHING.

Still curious about this, if there are any watchmaker who frequent the WatchTech sub-forum, or do I need to post in Jokes & Cartoons?

Who is your watchmaker? We can point him or her to this thread.

Serious answer is the same as I mentioned above... No, your watchmaker won't know the difference between a golfer and a jackhammer operator. Wear on the parts I mentioned will range from very little to a lot. If something needs replaced then it will get replaced, assuming it's a good watchmaker.

If you need any recommendations, let us know.
