1989 93160 SD Bracelet on 2000 model SD

We ran into something very odd today. Has anyone ever run into fitment issues with 1980s Sea Dweller 93160 bracelet not fitting on 2000 model Sea Dweller. 592 end pieces on the 93160 bracelet, measured slightly more than 20mm in width. Are the lugs on 1980s SD larger than 20mm? Anyone know?

We borrowed a watch from a neighbor and found the same thing. Larger than 20mm.

All work done in the good ol’ U.S. of A.

My '84 16760 case is 20.15mm at each end. I've had an older solid bottom 93160 on it before. That's all I have handy of that era at the moment to measure.

Hmmmm. I guess thats helpful. We sent a 1980s SEL 93160 Oyster to a customer and it wouldnt fit on his circa 2000 Sea Dweller. The SEL are slightly too large. Truly never crossed my mind they could be different.

You'll have to get the bracelet back and wet sand the sides down to no more than 20.04mm. I just measured two modern SELs and that's where they landed. Each case came out to 20.05mm so they're definitely a tight fit. I'm actually surprised at the tolerance.

The SEL's are press fit together and so they can separate slightly.

Before grinding anything down I would use a small arbor or hydraulic press to ensure the pieces are tight.

Good point. My post assumed they were checked and tight before being released. Pressing them 0.10mm could make all the difference.

Oh... my bad. I thought SELs weren't produced until the 2000's.
