I think if this thread (and the answers to your previous thread here: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=493543) haven't put you off, then nothing will.

I have two Rangers, both bought in the late 70's at a Rolex dealer in Odense, Denmark called Ragnar. Both with box/papers and on the dial there is a Tudor crest, not a rose.
They are 9050 calibers, and I can't imagine that they should be fakes !
They both have red Ranger letters.

Wow, that's really interesting. I hadn't seen any original owner, red text Rangers previous to your message here. Could be ignorance on my part, but I generally assumed anything with red text was fake. Interesting.

Here is mine, for reference (ref 90020):

I just found the receipt and Tudor papers relating to the two Rangers, and I was mistaken. I bought them in 1983, and that adds up, because I bought one for my 1 year old son to have on his 15 years birthday, and one for myself.
They were oldstock, they came with Oyster bracelets, and it was a clearance sale ! I paid at the time Danish kroner 1400,- a piece !
We still have both watches. My son rarely wears his, but I use mine frequently.

Hi Henrik,

It would be very helpful if you could share more pics of the watches and the sets including shots of the serial and ref. Not that I am doubting but this is an area where the general opinion always been that the red Rangers are fake.

Did you get it from Klarlund?

Thanks again!

I got them from the autorised Rolex dealer in Odense: Ragnar, and he is still in business.
And they were both new old stocks at that time in 1983.
When I get back to Denmark I will get them from the safe and have a look.

They were probably redials back then too. This was the same time that California boutique dealers were putting California dials on bubble backs.

Anything ever come of this?

We know at least 99.99% or Red Rangers are fake and rumors have indicated ONLY ONE out there - and that one is highly suspect.

I got a Tudor sub case on eBay yesterday for $450. It is due to arrive from Vietnam next week. Can I start a thread about it too? Sorry to be bitter but the red rangers harm all Tudor collectors. Everybody who buys one in good faith gets ripped off and soured on the brand

I think Hodinkee ran a recent "buyers, beware" article on a red Ranger on eBay.

From personal experience, quite a few well-made Franken or fake vintage Tudors could be found in Vietnam up to about 7 years ago, including Tudor Submariners, some with beautifully redone snowflake dials and replica cases. They all had original ETA movements however. I've also see red Rangers too. At that time, each was going for about $200.

Yup, case is fake, the inscription on the caseback seems to have been done yesterday. I reached out to the seller and asked him about it and he said that he has done his research and that Red Rangers did exist and this one has the correct movement (which is the ultimate form of authentication in his books)

Just look at the engraving on the case, it’s a clear fake. My pic below shows a true Tudor engraving on the left and a fake on the right. Which do you believe matches the sellers pic?
