Second watch

Hi all,

firstly cheers from my side. I've been following this forum for a long time but only registered now since I would really like to get an opinion on the topic that has been bugging me for a while.

In 2017 I have purchased a beautiful Yachtmaster with blue dial and Im still in love, HOWEVER I have been bitten by the watch bug, and Im now looking for my second watch.

My idea is set on the datejust 41, dark rhodium, fluted bezel, jubilee. To me it's stunning.

I know per fact that this will not be my last purchase so my question is do you think that this purchase makes sense on a future watch collection or shall I consider a dressier watch?

Thanks,

Matt

You have to get whatever speaks to you, but I would go for a more traditional sports watch like a Submariner, GMT Master II or Explorer/Explorer II. That Yachtmaster is gorgeous but it's a very non-traditional watch. Unless you really want a dressier option, then you should go for a Datejust or something (or even look at another brand -- as far as dress watches go, I'm really partial to the JLC MUT Moonphase).

I think the YM can double as a dress watch if you want it to. If you want jubilee I would consider the new BLRO Pepsi if you can swing one. But if you are set on a dj41, it’s also an excellent choice as well. Buy what speaks to you, you almost can’t go wrong.

Welcome! The DJ would be an excellent next addition! Beautiful watch! Compliments your YM nicely

If I look at the crystal ball and pretend to see the future I would look at a rolex family that would consist of my YM, the DJ41 and a classic sub. For the classier stuff I would add JLC, A. Lange., etc.

I confess, watches are my weak spot :)

Thanks,

M

Think the DJ will give you a nice balanced pair to choose from as well as being a classic Rolex reference.

it is always right to buy the one you like.

on the other hand, if you like more than one then you should go for the one more different than your other ones, and I think the DJ you mentioned is not different enough with your YM

Some have mentioned difficulty seeing the hands against the rhodium dial in some lighting conditions. Just something to consider, but the DJ (fluted) is timeless and a great idea for your collection.

DJ would be a nice addition for you. I'm also in favor of the fluted bezel, though many on here prefer the watch with out it. Get whatever sings to you!

“Diver” and a DJ41 make a nice combo, IMO

I'm buying my first Rolex soon and was having a hard time deciding between the YM you have, in addition to a smooth blue DJ, and a Hulk - I totally understand your struggle.

Does the YM feel heavy to you? Heavier than a sub for example, or have you never directly compared the two?

I say get the DJ - it's a beautiful watch that's easier to dress up/down than a sub. The YM is like if a sub and DJ had a kid. But the customization of the DJ you like is great for the dressier occasions.

Thanks all for the feedback.
Akapur, the YM is an absolute joy to wear. To me personally it wears much nicer than the sub. I have always been in love in it, have been dreaming it for a long time and Im super happy to have pulled the trigger.

Cheers, M

if you want a dress watch, a Datejust or a Cellini would be a great choice........also you can get a Sub/GMT-Master/Daytona down the road to complete your collection

Hey,

as I said above, my dream rolex team would consist of:

YM that I already have
DJ41 that is kind of in the pipeline
Sub
Daytona

I think this is the perfect rolex combo :)

I think the DJ would work great. I have learned to buy what I want and wear what I have. Seems simple but if you follow your passion you will enjoy the hobby.
