I have a Meisterstück 164 and wanting to buy some refills. I really enjoy the Rollerball 'feel', and was reading that some individuals purchase gel refills for their Montblanc ballpoints, which slightly mimic this? Anyone have suggestions on quality refills I could purchase? Is Monteverde capless Gel a good choice? The pen was a 1st wedding anniversary gift from my wife, so absolutely no way it will be getting sold, just trying to improve the writing feel.

I'm also asking, as I'm pondering picking up a Starwalker Extreme. I would highly prefer to go with ballpoint over rollerball (no cap to lose, and I love the twisting mechanism) if I can find a smoother ink. The regular Montblanc ballpoint refills are not only expensive, but they're kind of skiddish and not too great.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I love the rollerball and prefer it over the ballpoint. I'm interested to see what responses you get. I'd love to do the same if possible.

Yeah, I also really like rollerballs. However, as stated above, I enjoy not having a cap and the twist mechanism is a quirk I really enjoy. Not to mention, I prefer having ink that never gets smeared. When I weigh out of everything, I prefer the ballpoint, but would love to at least halfway replicate that rollerball 'feel'. I also want to take the Starwalker with me 'on the go' so a ballpoint is just more handy in that aspect.

There's a generic refill company that makes gel refill for MB, can't think of the name but have used them and they write pretty nice. Try the office supply stores.

Have you tried a refill of Montblanc with B-tip? Those are way smoother than the F or M they have.
