What's wrong with the quick release bars? I thought they were a smart idea for folks who like to change straps a lot. Are they less secure?

Multiple issues with them. First they do not exactly fit Seiko drilled lugs. The lug holes are 1.2mm, the quick release spring bars only come in .8mm tips. If you have a watch that it fits perfectly then yes it isn't that bad.

On leather straps if a quick release spring bar fails you either have to cut it out of the strap to reuse the strap, or throw the strap away.

The quick release lever on the spring bar gets a ton of abuse since the strap can't rotate around it. Every time your strap moves it puts direct pressure onto the lever which cause premature failure.

Have you taken a quick release spring bar and compressed the spring in it? Pretty weak if you ask me. Compared to a normal spring bar they are inferior imo.

I change straps all the time and I don't use them. I use a spring bar tool perfectly fine.

Like all things, your mileage might be different. I personally don't recommend them to anyone who values their watch.

I’ve been buying those Barton bands with quick release for over a year and I never had a problem.

I even put one of their strap on a sigma dial 1601.

Chip I wasn't trying to discredit you. I was stating what I know as it has happened with multiple of my customers. So I helped them out with solutions to there problem.

On the Rolex it works better than a Seiko diver since the lug holes diameter is .9mm. Where on the diver it is 1.2mm.

If I came across as as defensive, I apologise, it was not my intent.

With that said, everything you said above has been a concern of mine as well, and I tugged on them a bit and twisted them a little before I trusted them lol.
