Icon14 JLC vs. Panerai

Hello everyone,

I am very hesitating between those two:

Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso classic
OR
Panerai PAM 1523

Regardless the models, what would you choose when you cmpare those two companies? And which model of other suggested.

Maany thanks guys

JLC is the leader in pedigree and finish. The Panerai gets a ton of compliments and is a more youthful watch. Two totally different watches... depends on your age, lifestyle etc.

Do you have anything else in your collection? Do you like to swap straps frequently? Will it be an everyday watch?

I’ve had 3 Panerai and sold two of them ... novelty wore off. So my vote is for JLC.

No question in my eyes...JLC. An industry leader in their movements. Plus, they offer a wider array of models, from dress watches, to sport models to haute horology.

It sounds crazy trying to decide between JLC and Panerai. They couldn't be more different, but I totally get where you are coming from. I've been trying to decide the same thing. Ultimately for me the answer will be one of each, just not sure which one to get first. I'm strongly considering the 1523 as well, but torn between the JLC Master Control with date or the Master Ultra Thin small second.

With respect to your decision it really depends what else is in your collection and what you will wear it for. If it's a professional work setting I'd go with the JLC. If you are looking for more of a fun watch I'd go with the Panerai. Let us know what you decide! Good luck.

OK helps if I read the whole post....27 and you already have a DJ. I'd go Panerai! Wear the DJ for work and the Panerai for fun.

As others have stated, these are really two completely different watches. One is a dressy watch and the other is a sporty watch. Your Rolex Datejust is an in-between watch so you really could go either way or end up with both in the future and have no overlap in your collection. Considering your age, the Panerai might seem like the better choice but, then again, I purchased a gold Reverso when I was younger than you and will never own a Panerai, so who you are is more relevant that your age. I think you should consider if you wear suits and business casual more or jeans and t-shirts, although you could probably wear either watch with either type of clothing and look fine.

In that case JLC. But try a Reverso on your wrist. Its not for everyone.

JLC has many nice watches, great finishing, etc etc.... but, overall, Panerai hits more emotional highs (and lows), IMHO. Kind of Swiss vs Italian, I suppose. Definitely room for both in a collection.

Between the 2 you mentioned, I’d go white/silver Reverso and then aim for a more traditional black dial Panerai.

JLC for me. Also - my wrists could never handle a Panerai. Reverso is next on my list
