I believe you are correct which is why I looked it up. Everywhere I looked, people were saying Pt is too hard. Well my work and other sources tell us it is very possible. So if Rolex is doing it to distinguish Pt over WG, it's a bit odd as the DJ comes with a plain bezel on SS.

Incorrect.

Both the outer ring and the insert are 950 Pt (applies to 16622 and 116622 equally). The subject has been covered in other threads.

Jocke did a dismounting of the 16622 bezel and weighted ring and insert, the ring was heavier than the steel equivalent found in a Sub..

As for the 116622, Rolex description of the bezel says platinum, not steel and platinum. Also, for what it's worth, Rolex boutique veteran salesman where I live was adamant the whole bezel was platinum, not just the insert.

I've often wondered myself why they could manufacture an intricate platinum bezel in the YM with raised numerals, sandblasted finish and knurled ring while not being able to produce a simpler looking fluted bezel.

the world is your perpetual oyster

I will own a PT DD some day. That will be the watch I treat myself with on the day I retire. I just love the luster of PT, the weight and most importantly the beautiful blue dial.

But I will say that I have never owned a smooth bezel and in my heart of hearts I wish the PT was available in fluted.

I actually appreciate the way it is.....my OP34 (Rolex’s least expensive reference) shares the domed bezel trait with the Pt DD. I own and can appreciate both.

On the newer Yachtmasters the entire bezel and insert is platinum.

I don't like the bezel on the current PT DD40, which is why I went with the WG (that and although I could afford either, the $ delta, lol). It's just too flat and wide. Now the more rounded bezels of the older PT DD's pictured in this thread? I hope Rolex goes back to something similar in the future as I would love to add another DD with the meteorite dial but would like to get it in platinum...

Who needs a fluted platinum bezel if you can have a diamond bezel?
