I call mine "Blackie Sugar-Plum."
I can't seem to get any traction going, but if I do, I want to make sure everybody knows I was in on the ground floor. |

Never mind. I just realized I genuinely couldn't care less if someone gives themselves a self-proclaimed nickname or use a nickname for a watch. Just wanted to see if it could get me as upset as some trf'ers that I'd overdramatize a post about it. I just heard my AD, who's family has owned the jewelry store for 109 years use the term "Hulk" last week and I didn't see one person storm out of the store. |

People hate on new nicknames but it's a quick way to know what the model is without memorizing numerous model numbers. Nobody complained about "coke" "Pepsi" "root beer" "Bart Simpson" "frog leg" but they freak out if you say "Kermit" or "batman" . Who cares. People nickname car models "goat" for GTO or "deuce coupe" . It's all in fun

Nicknames don't get my panties in a bunch. Sometimes I'll use them, sometimes the reference number. If you feel it adds a little fun and character, so be it, that's fine with me. When I walk in to an AD everyone there seems to know and use them as well. It does seem the Phantom explorer name has stuck since the 42mm version came out. Like it or not nicknames are part of the universal language amongst us watch lovers. Let the force be with you....... heheeee.

Other than Coke and Pepsi (maybe just because they’ve been around forever) I hate all of the new nicknames and why there’s a need to always come up with some new one is beyond me.

Its called the phantom because of the half black painted hands against the black dial giving them a floating look.

I love orange and black and ride motorcycles.
My 216570 shall now and forevermore be named "Katoom" which is so inside, maybe 3 of you on the forum will get without Googling. Just kidding, I hate that idea. |

"Steath" (but with the special Orangy Centre? - Yum!)
on second thoughts perhaps it should be the JAFFA? I had the old Polar many years ago and hoping to have a good look at the 216570 in white IRL as it seems a tempting buy at the s/h prices I have seen. |

Been in many an AD who, when you mention the reference number, they smirk and call it by a nickname, eg Batman, Hulk or Pepsi.
Expecting a backlash, but Merry Christmas anyway! |

I’ve seen both. ADs that call them by model and color, “blue black GMT” as well as some that will use a nickname “Batman”. I have no issue with either- however, I do get a bit annoyed when I hear someone using nicknames because they do not know the actual watch but have heard the nickname used. Batman is the dumbest nickname for a watch.
Hulk is a bit more bearable, not a fan of these super hero names. Just call it BLNR or LV |
