No one notices

I notice watches....because I dig watches. I don't gawk, and I rarely say anything, but I notice. I think plenty of people notice, they just don't react. While I was waiting for the rest of my order at Starbucks yesterday with a cup in hand, a young girl, no more than 12, walked by and did a double take at my watch. She craned her neck and stared for a second or two. Just a GMTII, no gold or sparkling diamonds or anything eye-catching. OR.......I had a really good looking cup of coffee (it was tea, actually).

The only people who ever notice my rolex are salesmen (which I sometimes wear if I don't feel like wasting time and want service. never fails. you have a rolex on, you get service) and people who's dad's had rolex's. i've had a few people stop me in airports and at church and talk to me about their dad's rolexes and how their dad had always wanted one and when they finally got one and what it meant to them. I really love those stories. I'm not a rich man (although I'm doing just fine) and I didn't get mine until I was 40, and it was a big decision with my wife and me. So I really identify with those. Great stories. A rolex still really means something, and sometimes when people see one, it brings up great memories. Maybe that 12 YO girl had a grandfather who had a GMT, and secretly you made her day.

I like to “inconspicuously “ peek at what people are wearing out in the wild.
My pieces hardly ever get noticed. I have a fellow WIS at work, but otherwise it is a solitary experience. My wife gets far more compliments on her Garmin forerunner- “does it measure steps?”

I wanna see a pic of your cup of coffee! (Or tea rather) That must have been one GOOD looking cup!

That young girl sounds like she will be a future WIS and TRF member!

I dont mind when people notice.

I was eating a meal at a bar in the mall the other day. A woman said, "I am sorry to bother you, but that watch is absolutely stunning. What kind of watch is that"?

I enjoyed the conversation.

I got my one and only Rolex President (18k yellow) in mid-1985 in Los Angeles, and wore it every day for eight years. Many people noticed it, but one in particular who also sported a gold Rolex struck up a friendship at the computer store where I worked then. Subsequently after leaving that employment and having some legal issues, he stepped in and did a million dollars worth of legal paperwork for me that I'm in debt for to this day. At no charge. Apparently he had issues with the same person/business as I, and did the favor to pay them back double.

The second "notice" event was when I was walking through a downtown mall in Chattanooga Tennessee circa 1990, and the Crips from Los Angeles were in town to set up business there. I knew who they were due to some advance notice. One of them called out "nice watch" as I breezed by, at which point I nodded and made for the exit.

Once on the subway, I noticed a guy noticing my watch via reflection. I look at his wrist and he was wearing a BLNR. Awkward eye contact afterwards

We had a Christmas party at our home and my wife’s nieces husband kept staring at my watch. His eyes actually followed my wrist as I drank from a cup; he never said a word. I learned later in the evening that he was a salesman from a BMW dealership and I thought to myself, that maybe the rumors about car salesmen were true....or maybe he just thought my Daytona was a good fake because of the brown bezel and baby blue dial.
