What is a reasonable discount off of MSRP?
Greetings from a newbie, I have a beginner's question.
I have always worn inexpensive Seiko watches but I am ready to buy something nice. I can't afford a Submariner so I am going to purchase an Omega Seamaster 300 M shortly after Christmas. There are 2 Omega ADs in my city of 1 million peeps and, oddly enough, they are located about 100 feet from each other. I visited them today and both mentioned the same MSRP of $3400. At the first store (Tourneau) the salesman said they did not put items on sale but he would "work with me on the price". Since I wasn't buying it today I didn't ask for the exact amount of the discount. I visited the 2nd store (Bailey Banks & Biddle) and as soon as they found out that I'd already been to the Tourneau across the walkway they immediately offered me a 20% discount on the same watch -actually, on any watch they had in the store - good for today only. I feel like I've been car shopping. Anywho, what can I expect as a reasonable discount on a new Omega? And, if you are familiar with them, is there a big difference in service between the 2 retailers? There are 2 more ADs in a city an hour north of me so I can shop around if I need to do so. Thanks for any responses, this is a very informative place for a novice such as myself. I enjoy lurking around here. :) |

If you want an Omega, you need to get in touch with Fr. John here on the forum. He has an AD friend who has great prices and excellent service. I seriously doubt any other AD can touch Fr. John's friend's prices. I bought a Seamaster Professional 2254.50 two weeks ago and could not be more pleased with my deal and my watch. Cheers, Bill P.

I don't think that I would deal with Tourneau.... They don't get very good feedback and their salespeople are on commission so they want to make as much money for themselves as possible..
You get the highest discounts at a Grey Market Dealer so I might stick with Baily, Banks and Biddle. It's hard to beat their customer service for your watch, and they may come up to 25% or more... It always depends on the popularity of the model...

Over the years I have known him, my AD has spoiled me with pricing, product knowledge, and customer service.
He makes buying an Omega (or his other lines) almost too easy. I just wish he were a Rolex AD. (Then again, maybe I don't. ) Fr. John+ |

Woot!! Thanks for the help guys, all is well.
When I called he said he only had 22 left. It is 21 now. I should've dusted before I took the pic. Come to think of it, I should've learned to use my camera, this is the only close-up pic that wasn't blurry. I took one with my wind-up clock but it was all clock and hardly any watch. |

Spoke with Fr. Johns Omega AD today, will be buying a new Omega tomorrow, need to decide which one....anyway very knowledgeable, helpful, with alot of inventory. Didn't research prices in depth but seems fairly priced and nice to buy from a authorized dealer.

I do not know about Omega discount from an authorized dealer. I get 20% off for Rolex and that from what I have seen on this form is very high. My advice is do not let them sell you the line 20% but only today. Remenber they need you not the other way around. I mean like if you do not buy the watch will you go out of business? I did not think so. I would say to them I want 45% off and you name the time. I tried it with my AD and still got my 20% but did get it on my own time.
Cheers. |

Thanks for the responses folks. I should probably let you know I've already bought a watch (two actually) about 6 weeks ago.
I exchanged messages with Fr John and he hooked me up with his AD. The price was good so I bought a 2254.50 from him. I liked it so much I went ahead and grabbed his last 2255.80 also. I alternate them each day. |

I had these three: but had to sacrifice the "electric blue" when I replaced the "Great White" with my EXPII. My favorite shot of my 2255.80: You have two beautiful SMPs. Enjoy! Fr. John† |
