I have always loved watches but am very much a novice which very little horological understanding! I currently only have one watch - an Omega seamaster professional (Black face) which I bought to mark my 30th. Therefore this watch is likely to be both an everyday watch and also passed on to my son when he is old enough to inherit it!

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions they could make as to which Rolex may make the best purchase (Obviously I’m aware personal preference plays a huge emotional part) but knowing where to start can be tricky. My first thoughts were a daydate 41 (either silver or blue dial) on a jubilee bracelet. But I’d love to hear from people who love the brand as much as I think I’m about to!

Many thanks
Daydate comes in 40mm and in precious metals whereas a datejust comes in 41mm and 36mm

If your budget allows, definitely go for the daydate in everose gold with presidential bracelet

Welcome!

I purchased a Omega Seamaster (Blue) and Tudor BB GMT for my 30th last year.

I'm planning to get a Rolex Submariner date in black for my 40th, cant decide over a new one (when the time comes) or a classic 1680 Red.

My favourite new Datejust at the moment is the 41mm, Oystersteel , smooth bezel , oyster bracelet with slate dial (green roman numerals)

Actually the DJ41 in real world dimensions is 39.5mm and not 41mm.

Thanks for all the comments so far. And the photos - simply stunning.

Some excellent food for thought. A friend of mine said I should consider a JLC instead. Whilst it is an undoubtedly stunning watch (can’t remember the model I’m afraid - possibly a master control?) somehow it didn’t sing to me the way the Datejust does at the moment.

Anyone know much about JLC? My heart still says Rolex so this is more out of curiosity (and possibly reassurance)

Thanks again for all the help. I’ve contacted my local AD and am trying the DJ41 with jubile bracelet in the blue and the silver this weekend.

Just to throw in my tuppence, don’t be afraid to try on as many watches as you can at the AD as your budget is very accommodating.

As an additional option or two, my 36mm DJ next to my 39mm OP, to show a size comparison, any of which would also suit your dress style.

OP is a great look, but depends on what functionality you want. I personally find it difficult not having a date complication on my watch, so my vote would be for a DJ41. The blue dial is beautiful - cant really go wrong. That said, I think a GMT II would also be a good choice, with the added GMT complication.

Buy the Rolex you want. No need to consider fashion or opinion. Make sure you buy from AD. You have a come back with an AD and are guaranteed a straight watch.
