Intro & 16570 Explorer 2 love
Hi,
New member here. I've been a voracious reader but this is my first post. I have been collecting watches for several years now, but avoided Rolex until recently. I picked up a Submariner Hulk last year. Always liked that green dial and have enjoyed wearing the watch. After that I became fascinated with Rolex. The beauty but toughness of the Sub really impressed me. I guess I "got it" with Rolex. So, I started really looking at the Rolex Explorer 2. Was looking at picking up a 216570 but none where around to try on at ADs. So, I bumped into a 16570 White dial at a local jeweler and just fell in love. The white dial, the GMT functionality and the size got me. After wearing this watch for a week, I love it even more. Here's what i love about the 16570:
My only negative on the watch is that I would prefer a larger dial since find it a bit difficult to read on occasion without reading glasses. The bad news is that it is kind of ruined a couple of other watches for me. My Tudor BB Diet Pepsi now feels like a heavy behemoth on my wrist. I'm trying other straps to see if that helps, but I may end up just selling it. Even the Submariner Hulk now feels heavy. Has the 16570 Explorer 2 just ruined the new Rolex's for me? Where to go from here? Thank you all for your previous posts. I have learned so much from just reading here. --tom |

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the EXPII!!! For me the five digit Rolexes are perfection in many ways!!! First of all the look and feel are in line with the Rolex tradition. They are oversized to attract the fashion trendy. Their short coming however is their bracelets versus the modern equivalents. For me that's not a big issue however. I love my 16570 as well. In particular it's got great lume and a great dial!!! Yes the plots maybe bigger on the maxi case watches but that doesn't over shadow the drawbacks of the supersized cases, imho!!! My 16570 is currently being serviced. I'm anxious to get it back.

I think it's showing you how much better the 5-digit references are!
I love my 16610 better than any 116610 I've ever tried on. |

I just picked up a Polar too and it has had the same effect! Beautiful watch. I fear a 5 digit Sub will shortly follow. I can’t see me looking at anything bigger again.

Just got one myself and agree, they are a fantastic blend of features and give off a great "tool watch" vibe that can still dress up if necessary! Fits great on a rubber strap.
