Double incoming ... my first grand seikos

My interested in mechanical watches is relatively recent.. I started collecting 7-8 years ago. During that time I accumulated many seiko divers (new) and several vintage pieces off the Bay to supplement my more expensive pieces (Rolex etc). While I love the seiko design and robustness of these inexpensive watches (skx0xx for example), I had never considered making the jump to GS, perhaps because of the wide price gap- why buy a mechanical seiko that costs $6k when I can get one for $200? Over the past year or two however, perhaps due in part to some of the more recent releases and SEIKO’s expansion into the US market, as well as the terrific posts by fellow TRFers, I became more attracted to GS, particularly after the dial change they eliminated “Seiko” (I know, silly). I visited the NY boutique this past spring and tried on the SBGH211 (snowflake) and SBG267, but passed at this time - still couldn’t commit and the case thickness and lack of clasp micro adjustments bothered me a tad. I was about to start consolidating my colllecrion a little. I ended up getting an FPJ CB (which I love). But both these pieces stuck in my mind. Fast forward to the beginning of this month... DavisSW had a pre-owned SBGH211 listed, and I completed a trade with him in a few days. My third deal with David, and again it was flawless.

I’ve been wearing the snowflake the better part of this month and bonded immediately with it. The finishing is amazing; the polishing on the hands and markers especially. The sweep of the seconds hand and rotation of the spring drive movement on the back are meamerizing. And the fit was perfect - probably one of my most comfortable watch.

Ready to part with another watch in my collection and drawn to GS even more now, I searched for a SBGH267. I kicked myself for missing out on one when available at a boutique as it was LE to 1500 and was told they were all distributed in the US. But then I found a BNIB one that Thanh aka Takayu posted. I’ve never dealt w Thanh but his reputation is stellar on TRF so I reached out to him
After getting some helpful feedback about him and the watch from TRF members (thanks). I contacted Thanh Friday, we agreed on a trade, he had my watch yesterday (monday) and I had the SBGH267 today (Tuesday). He was amazing, responsive on email and text, and sized the GS perfectly for me. I would not hesitate to buy from him again or recommend him to anyone else . He’s fantastic.

Wore the new one this afternoon and it is just stunning. The dial is so unique and the shade of blue is very cool. The different finishes on the hands, markers, and cases work so well together in all sorts of lighting. And it’s fit is great on my 6.75 inch wrist.

Some crummy iPhone pics .... thanks for reading! Very excited to own a pair of GS!

The watch face on the SBG267 is a real beauty. I tried on one at the GS Boutique in BH and really was tempted but decided not to buy one.. Maybe some day if/when I get tired of my GS SD.

Phew—the case on the SBGH267 is gorgeous. I love the lugs, and the larger crown. When you jumped into Grand Seiko, you really took a plunge! I don’t have a high beat yet, but a SBGA003, SBGR251 and SBGR301. I’m actually thinking my next piece may actually be a 9F. Regardless, congratulations on your GS. These are lovely.
