Parmigiani- What are your thoughts?

Hey all, I have been looking for a new office/dress watch for sometime now and I thought I had it settled between a PP Calatrava 5227r or the JLC Ultrathin Moon. However, when I discovered the Parmigiani Toric and it’s history/story and production I have been completely blown away and quite frankly place it well ahead of PP and JLC. What are your thoughts?

I almost pulled the trigger last Christmas, but didn’t. Not because it’s a bad watch, but resale value. Cuz I knew I wasn’t going to keep it forever. I can tell u back then my AD was offering 50% off (just for Dec month he said).

But when I checked, I might need to take another 50% off when I sell it..

Maybe not this particular model, but just resale value so I didn’t purchase. People always say buy and enjoy it. Well... for me this is a good watch but not enough to my heart, then I need to use my head.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, during my research on the brand a common issue is the resale of their watches. However, with the kind of discounts you are referring too from AD’s it might be well worth it especially as I don’t plan on selling my watches.

If you want a guilloched dial - Have you checked out the Breguet Marine series? Some of the pieces can be switched for both dress and casual use.



The other Breguet option albeit on the higher range would be the enamel dial...

I feel sorry for those who live through their hobby more concerned with how little they can get away with losing than simply enjoying every unlimiting facet of it.
For those who open their mind and eyes, the above links should give you plenty of comfort in knowing what you’re buying into.
It’s definitely not another me-too brand, that’s for sure!

A chronometer certified movement only relates to its timekeeping, COSC (Besançon and Glashütte Observatoies in France and Germany, respectively) don’t concern themselves with anything else.

I totally agree. I love the Parmigiani and look at it as a long term, heirloom kind of piece. Trust me, I’ve read every article there is on the brand and absolutely love it.

The latter refers to a five stage process of certification/craftsman ship on the watch by Parmigiani. The former relates to the certification as already mentioned by another member.

For sure, it’s a beautiful watch, great movement and craftsmanship. I was looking for a dress watch with manual winding. That’s why it didn’t really sing to me.

But I have a couple of watches in my collection that I knew resale value is terrible, again if not plan on selling it, who cares!

I would think about taking advantage of the lousy resale value and buying used. If you buy right your investment should be protected.

Thanks for your reply. Yes they are both amazing.

Trying to figure out what a good pre-owned price may prove to be interesting. Parmigiani’s website states that those models are CHF24,000 which is about $33,000 AUD. Chrono 24 offer the watches around $25,000AUD. I’m hoping ADs will come to the party and offer a similar discounted amount.

I’ve seen the watch in Brisbane AD but didn’t talk to them about price. What I was saying in my previous post was that I’m hoping that when I come to purchase the watch, either k e of the ADs on the east coast (melb,syd,bris) will come to the party and reduce prices; fingers crossed.

I owned a Parmigiani Tonda 1950 in Rose Gold with the Cream Dial. The level of finishing on the watch was superb AND it was a micro rotor which I absolutely love. BUT - I did buy it pre-owned for a fraction of MSRP - I paid about 30% ish of retail. That's the only way to justify buying one of these pieces.

Just like Moser & Cie, Glashutte Original, Nomos, Breguet, and other brands that have modest marketing and mall representation, Parmigiani offers high quality no-nonsense outstanding watches. Will it sell the next day for more than you paid for it? Probably not. But that is not the point.

I owned a parmigiani kappa but traded it for a reverso. Monetarily, it was an even trade. For resale purposes, id avoid this brand (jlc also, but less so). My kappa was nice but the bracelet was cumbersome and the watch face was unremarkable.
