Smooth bezel identification/thoughts opinions appreciated

Hello forum members, I posted a topic a while back without much luck, so I thought I'd try again to get some thoughts of those far more qualified and experienced than me.

Way back in the very early 70’s my fathers Rolex 6542 bezel cracked and disintegrated (as appears to be the norm) he decided to fit a smooth chrome bezel that he had in his drawer that I assume he’d bought with the watch in the mid 60’s ( both second hand) from his Rolex watch dealer friend. The bezel stayed on the watch until I removed it last year.

From research that I've done I believe it may be the smooth bezel from a Milgauss 6541 sold in North American market instead of the black rotating bezel .

I've based this due to the case sizes being the same and that he had it in his possession in the 60’s. Plus the fact that they (6541) weren’t at all popular then so there would have been plenty laying around for parts etc.

I have ruled out the bezel from a Milgauss 1019 and Explorer as they are a completely different size and shape.

I have no papers to prove its authenticity provenance merely putting two and two together. I’d be very interested to have some opinions from the experts on the forum please. ( Positive or negative).
