If you are willing to pay $20k plus tax you might as well just buy one from a trusted seller with box, papers and warranty card.

I think this was a very clever ploy by OP.
He wants a white Daytona (don't we all). If he asks the forum if he should pony up a $10k premium for one, he gets the universal "That's insane. It's a nice watch (or "I've always hated Daytonas"), but not worth that premium. Get the PM version or get whatever MY favorite watch is." But OP is too clever for this. Instead, he asks if he should get a dicey, no papers Daytona for $20k. Now everyone is extolling the virtues of picking up a new SS Daytona for the low, low price of $24k! Genius, I tell ya! And, he can show his wife this thread where everyone is telling him to pony up a bit more for the brand new one.

Also, they seldom add paperwork that has privacy information with it, such as the warranty papers in another name. Major chains send all trade-ins to their corporate offices where they are evaluated and sent out for resale - no papers, no history. Thousands of watches are sold daily through brick-and-mortar stores and do not cater to the Internet crowd who "demand" full-sets but never want to leave their keyboard and couch.

It’s good to know the dealer was willing to stand behind a legitimate chain of custody. I mentioned you should pass as certainly agree with that decision. Things will settle down but not soon IHMO - it’ll take a global economic downturn to stem the runaway demand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

No way at $20k incomplete. Makes no sense and you would certainly take a hit as there will be people (majority of the people here) who would not buy incomplete as there's too many unknowns to why the papers are missing.

I might be late to this dance.
But 20k. No papers. Not a snowballs chance in hell.

Without papers is a big hit to value. 12k is what I would be willing to pay due to risk

thinking of a pawn shop here as stolen items are recovered from those places all the time and i assume when they bought it they didn't know as they stay in business.

Tourneau does this all the time - never come with box or papers. Not sure why.
I would if it were white for $16k or black for $15k Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
