Basel 2019 - is it worth going?

I will be in Lyon the last couple of weeks of March. Geneva is about 2 hours away and currently contemplating if I should go check to it out.
Is it worth the trip? I will lose some brownie points since I will be leaving wife alone with kids and my side of the family. The fun part my wife and my family don’t speak same language , so will be getting constant phone calls to translate left and right.
But in all seriousness, is it worth the time and the 2 hours drive to go there?

I say go for it, but why not take the family with you?

This is Baselworld we're talking about, not Legoland

If your wife gives the greenlight, you should absolutely go. I lived in Switzerland for a few years and went to Baselworld every year. Annecy France is 40 minutes south of Geneva and worth a stop as well though not related to watches.

I'd love to go, and if I'm in Switzerland, I'd definitely go!

i have never been, but i don't really like crowded even, so i would not bother going... you will get a better view of the watches online.
i mean it will be exciting for 2 hrs...but after that...you gonna wish you did not leave your wife with the family...this will haunt you back. i have been there...left my wife with my family, and they spoke 2 different languages....oh man i still hear about it 12 yrs later...
:-).
sorry i am a downer...but at the end of the day do what makes you happy...if you are going to regret not going....then go. good luck.

The owner of our local family-owned AD attends every year (since forever), and he supplies us with much information. That's good enough for me.

It is my understanding that the Baselworld event is only open to dealers. I openly admit I don’t know that for a fact. You might want to check, if you are not a dealer, that is.

I don’t think a watch show will be that much of interest for toddlers. And when they are not entertained nobody will.

Will certainly consider going. I will post pics but more importantly will be cool to meet a person from the forum on the ground and grab coffee

It will be interesting to go, but nothing beats time with family.

Its not worth going to for the general public. I go every year and I only find it fun because I know a ton of people that go and we have a good time. However, if you aren't a dealer or work in a jewelry store with appointments with the brands its a complete waste of time.

You aren't allowed to step into most booths and you wont be able to touch a single watch. You literally will spend $100 or whatever the ticket price is to look at watches behind glass. Baselworld is way more interesting from behind a computer screen if you aren't in the trade.

Baselworld is in Basel, not Geneva. It's about another three hours' drive from Geneva.

Dah! That is lame. I guess that was the wine talking, it is called BASELworld after all. Now that is about 4 hours by train. To be considered if I leave early AM. Got to check train schedule both ways

My wife would be pretty ticked if we went on a family trip and I left her with family she can't speak to. lol.
