PAM 005 sound
Hi,
I just got my very first PAM Watch today. This is my first mechanical watch. I have one question about this watch - or maybe in fact most mechanical Watchs. If I hold up the watch to my ear (maybe 10 cm from my ear) I can hear the movement - is that normal, or shouldnt it be so loud? |

Totally normal. You can hear the movement in almost any mechanical movement.

Although almost all mechanical watches do make movement sound, I find my Panerai the loudest of all my mechanical watches.

Very questionable. It might not be an authentic Panerai. Best way to handle this is to send it to me. Im trained to handle this sort of thing and know the proper way to dispose of it

Yep, my 114 is loud. I can hear it inside the elevator with it on my wrist. Some people said the movement is too loud, but I found it charming. Well, I like watch, so I am probably biased. :D

Thats quite normal for most manually wound powered PAMs. Specially ETA based manual wound movements. IMO it gives it a certain charm. The sound soothes my soul

For me, part of the charm is hearing the movement. I found it was even louder in the titanium models. Enjoy your 005!

My 1312 and 1048 were noisy too. Got a feedback from Panerai as below :
For calibers P9010, the construction of the automatic movement system causes a sound during automatic winding, while for the OPXXX and family, some traces appear on the balls path of the bearing quickly due to repeated shocks (even small shocks) as the balls used by Panerai are made in ceramic material and are extremely hard. In addition, if the bearing of the oscillating mass is assembled in a configuration with strong shakes, this phenomenon of balls marking on the balls path is accentuated. Those modifications of the surface-finishing cause a increase of the noise when the oscillating weight works. The noise and this matting of the balls path do not interfere with the proper functioning of the automatic winding system So enjoy the watch! Sent from my ONE A2003 using Tapatalk |

I have an 005 and it’s the same, as others have noted. I was a bit surprised when I visited the boutique at how noisy the act of winding, and the movement itself were, compared to the Rollie’s I have owned.
