Watch Repair Question. ?
I have an older Air King. The serial number is hard to read, but I believe it's from 1977. An AD looked at it and said it's at least 30 years old. I would like to get it at least polished up, but it also needs a new crystal. So today I came upon a website called qualitytyme.net . They make some good claims on Rolex watch repair on their site.
Anyway to my question. In their FAQ's they state that Rolex USA will not service a watch if it's over 25 years old. Is that correct? And if that is correct any recommendations on independents? I know the bracelet on the watch is aftermarket, will that make any difference on "If" they will service the watch?

No, that is a false statement.
Rolex will overhaul many different models for many years so long as they have the parts and the watch is not an "exotic" model where owners are quite picky about what gets done. I would bet a dollar that they will service your 1977 Air King for about 500 bucks and put on a new bracelet for another 500 or so if you want one. Otherwise they will just take off the bracelet and return it to you along with the watch head. However, qualitytyme is a pretty decent organization and you should feel comfortable if you want to use their services.

There is a bit of truth to that, albeit a "bit"! Rolex guarantees parts for models for 25 years from the end of production of that particular model. So it has less to do with the age of the watch and more to do with when the movement ceased production.

Thanks for the reply's
It's good to know they are a decent company, because their overhaul price wasn't that bad. The model of this watch is the 5500 and I am sure you fine folks know when they stopped making that movement more than I Again, great info from a great site!
