Rolex 1601 Buckley authentication
Hello all.
I'm about to pull the trigger on this 1601 Datejust Buckley dial but I'm having a lot of trouble finding another example of this exact dial. Specifically the fact that the minute track has fat lines at the hour points, and no lume dots. I've found examples with fat hour lines in the minute track, but they have a lume dot over them. I've also found one example from the early 80's with no lume, but it has consistent line sizes. Could someone help me out? Is this dial original? |

From the pic provided, it looks like a new aftermarket dial.
The watch you are looking at is only a Buckley in "style", its just a roman numeral dial. A Buckley would have black hands with a white dial. The price on Etsy is overpriced for it being on just a leather strap. You can pick up 1601s all day for under 2 grand on a leather strap.

I have been able to find 1603's with this dial, but no 1601's. I always thought only the bezel's were different. Anyone know if they had ref specific dials as well? Its just weird that I've been searching for like 4 hours and I can't find a single 1601 without lume dots.

To my knowledge the black hands didn't come about until the 1970's. so it's plausible that it wouldn't have black hands if it's older than that.

Looks like I'm probably wrong about the hands. I was only going to pay $2500. Best to steer clear. thanks!

I saw that on eBay too. Took a second look because of the price. But it's the wrong hands for that dial. It has the closed 9 on the date wheel. I'm thinking it should be an open 9 to be period correct with when the Buckleys were used. I may be wrong.

Funny I'm doing similar but I want the 1603 and keep finding 1601 mostly. The hands shown here don't look right should be black or black with lume |
