Post Purchase Daytona Ceramic 116500LN authenticity check
A few weeks ago, I got the call and brought a new Daytona Ceramic from an AD.
I know it’s too late now but someone on social media raised the question if this is real. They claim that the subrings on the dial are too thick and the crystal protrudes out. There were a couple of issues with the watch. First, I’ve come to learn that the Rolex box it arrived in is an older box (31.00.64). I’ve been in touch with them, they apologized and have agreed to send the correct box. Second, the watch arrived with a tiny speck of dust under the crystal! The AD offered to have it shipped back and have their repair team fix it or send it out to RSC. I didn’t want to ship it out again or lose the watch to RSC for weeks so I had LA Watchworks fix it. The co-founder, Beau, personally worked on it and I had the watch back within 24 hours. Also the laser engraved coronet on the crystal also was a bit misaligned, at 4 o’clock instead of 6 o’clock so they fixed that as well. Watch weighs 141 grams, which matches to the specs I found online. Accuracy is +1 sec per day, power reserve is about 72 hours. I doubt the fakers can copy the weight, accuracy and laser engraved coronet exactly, no matter how good they are, right? Since the Daytona, especially in white, is so rare, I’ve never seen or handled one in person until receiving my own a few weeks ago. With these few issues and someone raising the authenticity question, I’m honestly beginning to have some doubts. Did I just get scammed? I hoping you guys can help please. Thank you. |

Buying from AD should completely eliminate any doubts of authenticity. Well before this shortage fiasco started, paying a bit more from AD vs. Grey dealer was a big draw to assure you didn’t get a knock off.

If the AD is a legitimate AD I would be shocked if they sold you a fake Rolex. Imagine the amount of trouble they would be in if they did?
Enjoy your new Daytona, its a beautiful watch. |

Not to mention that LA Watchworks also worked on it and if it was fake in any regard they would have got back to you right away since they wouldnt want to be on the hook for a fake watch.

So a hater on the gram got you spun after you dropped more than a rack and a half at an AD? Please please get a grip and stop listening to 12 year olds.

I'm guessing this was a preowned purchase correct? Odd the LEC would be out of alignment. Doesn't rotate by itself.

Your watch is fine nothing to worry about and the LEC on watches without a date are not always perfect at the bottom of dial, and no Daytona is rare even the ceramic many hundreds possible thousands in this world today.

A secondary dealer sending the wrong box is more likely than an AD Sending the watch and paying to have it fixed rather than send it to RSC via the AD seems odd. If it was from an AD there would be zero doubt, yet you have doubts. there is nothing wrong with getting it from a dealer. BTW i think you just voided your warranty. They may be 100% legit but they are not Rolex and only Rolex can open up a watch under warranty.

Brand new from an AD, sent to 3rd party for minor work. Potentially voided a 5 year warranty....

If the warranty is void, big deal. Most watches never need warranty work. Some place more darn priority on the warranty than the actual watch itself.

To most people a warranty is piece of mind. I wouldn't buy a watch without one. Its just a strange choice for rectifying an issue to me. I know rolex are exceedingly reliable, but its also a chronograph and its a lot more that can break vs your standard sub.

oh i agree. the OP himself preferred to have a top notch independent shop like LAWW remove dust from under the crystal rather than deal with the time and red-tape of RSC service. if on the outside chance the thing acts up before 5 years then simply bring it again to LAWW and let them do the service. not such a biggie.
