BTW those of you who are Norlan glass owners, worth the hype? I was an early adopter, but now that I've owned them for a few years I couldn't care less about them. Prefer the Canadian whiskey glasses myself, kind of a hybrid cross of a Gleancairn and a wider rocks glass. Their my current fav for whiskey.

Got to compare the 2018 GTS and THH side by side last week. GTS was awesome neat. THH was good with 3 drops of water added. GTS neat > THH w/H20.

Most likely no one, most off-premise retailers who do these kinds of markups do it to simply say they have the highly allocated bottles to impress the customers who gawk instead of buy highend spirits and so that if someone with more money than sense comes along they make a killing. Since they don't have the stock to do big volume on these gems might as well price it to the ceiling to keep it in stock or to count the Benjamin's if a Rube pays their price.

Anyone going to buy the Game of Thrones whisky's? Lagavulin house of Lannister, Dalwhinnie House of Stark, etc?

I have a few Bas, but only for the art on the bottles and tube/canister. It really was created as a scotch stater-kit, all are more modest offerings from the various distilleries so that they would be affordable enough for people who aren't into Scotch yet to get their feet wet. They are fun offerings and really great marketing but the Scotch again is not really the best these purveyors have to offer.

Pure candy, I liked the red spot, not a huge fan of the other spots. Not a fan of the price though, hope you didn't get raked.

What's everyone favorite method for cleansing the palate when taste testing a flight of different whiskeys?

There's only so much whiskey you can taste before you blow out your taste-buds. Saltines or any neutral cracker or bread work. Same as wine but you can drink far less whiskey at one gig even if you spit, 90-100 proof plus gets absorbed through your pores.

I also taste the peated whisky after the unpeated. Once you get a big blast of a peat monster, you won’t be going back to subtle lowlands, etc.

McCallen 12 for a normal day. Taste like apple juice. 18 or 25 for a special occasion.

The Norlan is very nice but a bit on the fragile side. I broke one the day I open the gift (from my Mother) so I immediately had to buy it on Amazon I felt so guilty. |

We haven't seen any Red Spot in my area, but $130 is what the Yellow Spot goes for around here. But that's always gone quick. I actually quite like the Yellow. My whiskey club is doing an Irish Whisky tasting on the 15th (in celebration of St Paddy's Day, of course!) and I was hoping to get a bottle of the Red or Yellow, but no luck. Picked up some Redbreast 15 instead.
