I've got an M-serial SD and am considering putting in a safe place as they're no longer produced....I'm not hard on the watch....yet....but I will want my daily-wear timepiece to go in the ocean and in swimming pools with me....do I save the SD or simply wear it, care for it, and enjoy without a second thought?

Just wear and enjoy your watch thats what it was made for, lets get few things straight the SD was introduced in 1972 and the only changes since then are just a couple of modified movement changes.But since 1989 the only difference in any SD is now non lug holes and a different case date letter and a few very minor font details and thats it. Everything is the same as the 1989 model when the Cal 3135 was first introduced.

And there are many many thousands of SDs in the world today so doubt if any modern day SD will become collectable. The only difference between any of them is a different date case stamp non lug holes so hardy a collectable model.And now perhaps the SD has come to the end of the line,dont necessarily make them to become collectable. The SD has one of the longest runs for any Rolex watch 37 years with very very little change.Now some of the vintage ones and the reds etc,now thats a different story.The modern type well forget it just to many of them around,IMHO no matter what the case date stamp is its the same modern day SD .

Wear it and enjoy it. I can't see the point at all in buying a fantastic watch that your never going to use. They have probably produced tens of thousands of them over the years anyway.

Wear the living daylights out of that beauty.....and enjoy it to the full.

What's the use of having such a superb time-piece and then storing it in a safe?

You'll have to hold onto that watch for 40 years before you start to see some gains in it's value and even that won't be saying much. You'd gain more if you sold the watch today and took the money and kept investing it over and over in GIC's over the next 40 years.

Kind of depressing that a lot of members don't seem to get much enjoyment out of their watches for worrying about damaging them in normal usage.

If I wasn't happy wearing it, I'd probably sell it use the funds else where.

If you are asking if wearing the watch will somehow affect it's intrinsic value of future, if any, collectability, I'd say no.

Keep in mind how many desirable vintage pieces were used and abused by owners over the years with no thought as to what the watch may someday be worth....and look at some of them now.

What ever you do to your SD, an RSC sercive will make right. Why deny yourself the chance to build a history with a watch and the years of pleasure wearing it will bring.
