I`m just curious. My gmt is a 1985 and I am a couple years away from service ( I`ve had 3... I think) but I think it would be cool to send my gmt back home to the factory for a service. There is no good reason for this as I am sure the rolex service centers are great. For some reason I have always ran away from the normal way of doing things. I think that is why I have a rolex.

I don't think that it's unpopular Lane..

It's probably that hardly anybody has given a thought to sending their watch to Geneva...

There just isn't much reason to with a Rolex because the Rolex Service Centers are factory trained and certified to do the work and refinish the bracelet to the same standards..

..In other words, it might be kind of cool to say that you sent your watch to Switzerland for it's overhaul, I'm not so sure that the practical value, or the loss of the time it would take, would be of much value..

I will tell you what would be way cool.........If Rolex would start a vintage restoration operation at Geneva........ I've got couple I would be happy to send their way for that..

A good friend of mine did, he sent both he and his wife's watches back home. It took about the same amount of time and the price was close to the same. Also, Randy (steelinox) sent his Sub back as well. I know both parties were happy with the results.

Thanks for the imput. Yea, you are right, no practical reason... I guess symbolic more than anything. I`m not due yet but I will post if I send it there. As far as time goes I hope it would not take anymore time. Fedex to Geneva one or two day service.

Send it to me, I will make sure it gets to RSC Toronto, they will do absolute godlike work on your watch, at a fraction of the price.

You know Lane, I really like the idea. No, it's not very cost effective, (is a Rolex?), but there is something about it. I'm 3 years off from my first service but I think I'd like to do it too!

Not a bad idea in some senses.
It might be cheaper if paying in Swiss Francs

And you know that at the factory you are going to get A++ service.
However, the downside might be that it is more difficult to communicate with the service centre and then there is the cost of postage and the added risk of international shipping, plus the banging around the box will/might get in the mail or courier system.

So why not take it there to get it serviced!!

Oh I forgot to add my wife is from Lucerne, Switzerland and we go back every now and then!!
