There’s a thread on here re: an interview with a watchmaker who argues that whilst the 3135 and 3235 (not GMT movements but the principle stands) are both excellent movements, it could be argued that the newer one might not be as good in the long run from a servicing perspective.

The older movements as you say keep astonishingly good time for an automatic, are bulletproof and beloved of watchmakers come servicing time. No doubt the newer movements have advantages - the biggest bring power reserve, but also greater anti-magnetism - but to say they’re “much better” is a sentiment based on marketing hype as much as anything else.
