BENTLEY CENTENARY Investment Value?
I always wear the watches I buy. If I lose money- so be it. But I do wonder if the particular piece might have some appreciation. What do you think about this one?
1) I haven't bought a Breiling- should I expect a discount for this particular watch and if so, what should I ask? 2) Do you think it has any chance at appreciating in value over time? https://www.breitling.com/us-en/watc...AB01181A1Q1X1/ |

Do not expect any increase in value with any Breitling watch right now. With all that Georges Kern has done since taking over Breitling he has done very little to address the current grey market situation with respect to Breitling Watches. Breitling is only interested in pushing watches out of the factory so that they can point to a X% increase in watches shipped when they go to sell the company (they are currently owned by a hedge fund). Once they leave the factory, someone has to buy them and the demand is just not there. Thus they go out the back door to the grey dealers! There is not one watch that Breitling has released since changing ownership that can not be bought from an AD at a discount. Due to the limited number I would shoot for 20%!
On a side note, how well will a watch with a wooden dial hold up over the long term? |

Agreed this is about as poor an investment you can make in terms of watches.

The words "Breitling" and "investment" usually don't go together 95% of the time.

NO. I think Breitling is a watch to keep.

Sadly, Breitling watches are like Bentley cars, they depreciate about 50% in a year or three. Look at resale values of both and decide accordingly. Fortunately, Breitling watches seems to be far more reliable, and far less costly to use/service, than the Bentley :)

What is your expected rate of return? How does that compare to other invested assets?
