116520 vs 116519. Same price????

So i just made the startling realization (might be common knowledge for some of you guys but to me this was news), that a white 116520 sells in the same price range as a 116519 in white gold which looks largely similar but is in gold and on a leather bracelet.

Now even though a daytona is currently not in my price range, but definitely is on my list at some point, can someone tell me why they'd buy a SS daytona over a WG daytona that looks largely similar? I realize that SS daytonas are an icon and all that, but still i'd like to hear your input.

Something about a SS Daytona that attracts even a billionaire to wear.

I know and i agree, it does look classy, but can someone dissect that thought further?

I concur with the original premise of the OP's post. The only reason to get the SS at the same or even higher price is if you must have the bracelet instead of leather.

I went with the gold. And I actually like having the strap because it is less flashy/blingy that the bracelet with the PCL.

I think you’ve kind of said it in your last few lines. The Daytona is an icon and that icon is the SS model. The value of something can sometimes be more than just material value. As well, with the older 116519 on leather many are not really fans of the leather strap and dial variations (many do not like the Arabic font/numbers).

it's a Daytona...the best style for all.

high value watch is for the rich folks. A 30K watch is like a hundred dollars for the middle class.

This exactly. I won’t pay the bubble grey price for SS but I got a great deal on a new WG Daytona just bc the strap was an ugly color. That was super easy to fix & I can easily get my money out of it if desired.

Ss is more in keeping with a sport watch and far more online with their to watch DNA. I do like the look of the varying colors offered in the PM pieces. But for me when I close my eyes and think sub and Daytona, the SS models pop up. They are the archetypes.

right, nowadays, you can get the nicest custom made leather strap probably for less than 300$

The ss Daytona with ss bezel may be a scratch magnet but it is far more refined than the ceramic imo.
