Risk of feeling blue...

Would appreciate people's views on my current quandary....

Am considering taking the plunge on a 116619LB. Is a sizeable purchase at £28k, but my AD says he currently has room on this year's allocation to order this in for me. Love the look of this model and would be a real grail piece for me. My only worry at this time is whether I should go for this now (my current thinking - love the watch, so why not ?) or sit tight for a possible movement update next year, or maybe even a design change (which could be a good thing or a bad one). New movement with an increased power reserve would be most welcome, however, it could be that nothing happens next year apart from a price increase or, God forbid, it gets discontinued. Guess I've pretty much already answered my own question regarding what to do, but thought would canvass opinion...

Also, has anyone recently obtained a discount on this model ? Have a good relationship with the AD, but the general theme seems to be no discounts on anything and certainly wasn't available on other recent purchases. Buying this Sub will also certainly help my cause in relatively shortly getting the only other model that I want (white dial SS Daytona), so should I accept that as a "good will gesture" and as the equivalent of a discount, or push a price reduction, as well as expediting my quest for the Daytona.

Any advice would be most welcome. Many thanks in advance.

Think discounts will be hard to get in the UK now, I remember just a couple of years ago you could buy BNIB for £16K, boy it's a hard market now to be in, but a grail's a grail.

Never know what Rolex will do next year, or the next, etc
Discounts are hard to come by these days.

If you love it, buy it, enjoy it.

If you like the watch, buy it! No guarantee that a mov, went update will occur in the subs next year and/of if the 116619 will still be around if that occurred.

Buy what you like and don’t look back. With PM, I tend to think you're best buying a model that’s been around for awhile rather than a newly released hot version of the same watch.

If I were you, I’d try to bundle the SS Daytona with the WG sub.

You need to leverage this watch given you aspirations for an 116500LN. State your interest and that you will like to pickup both watches at the same time. You flip the tables when you are in the market for a PM due to higher profit margins

Appreciate the comments and supports my current mindset of "buy what I like now, because who knows what might happen tomorrow", for better or worse.

Will certainly push to bundle the 116500ln, or worst case get a definitive date for it. £38k is a huge chunk of cash for me to drop for 2 watches, and have already spent quite a bit with the AD recently, but should keep me content, at least until the "next one" !! Why didn't I continue with this obsession back when I started in 2005, when a black Sub Date cost £2,350 ? 2019 isn't the best time to get back into it...

Will give it another couple of days to make sure is what I definitely want to do, but will keep you posted...

FWIW my AD was saying that Submariner allocations for this year are up on the previous, which is very similar to the GMT's last year, so the expectation is that something is gonna change next year. But who knows for sure what Rolex will do - the 2020 big reveal could be a platinum DeepSea and a rose gold Sub with a diamond studded dial !!

I'd say get it now if you want it. I wouldn't worry about any changes next year. I'm in the US and was able to get a 15% discount at my AD but that was June 2018. I haven't seen one in the case in quite some time though.

I made myself wait 10 years to get the 116619LB and my only regret is waiting 9 of them. If I had bought back in 2009 I would have saved around $13,000.00.

Now its worn almost every day, not one bit of buyers remorse.

I say go for it.
