Scratches on brushed SS are much less noticeable than on PCL’s. They are actually very hard to see on my 114060.

I think refreshing bands and clasps here and there is fine. I never polish my cases tho.

After a few pieces with pcls,,
Scratches really don’t bother me now,,
Our puppy put a nice scratch on the bezel of a brand new dj within a week,
it makes me smile ,,,puppy now a year old so a great memory and the watch will be brand new when it’s service time in four and half years,,

Scratches happen and it's part of owning a watch. However, I wouldn't look at a scratch and think of the great memory I had from smacking my watch against a door jamb.

I do not buy this «every scratch remember me about the story behind it». It is a nice and sentimental thing to say. But I dont buy it. I am looking at my watch right now, but I cant remember the story behind a singel mark.

Some of them - you do remember. Specifically on my watch, I remember one on the bezel from a buddy's bachelor party and another one when we were in CO when I bumped it on a rock at the Garden of the Gods.

Those are more prominent scratches I remember... there are obviously many others that happen throughout normal wear and are not memorable.

Watches are meant to be worn. I agree with other posters that like most things that are new - first one is always the most painful but you move on!

Scratches are unavoidable and the first few are annoying as hell but after that you get over it! You can always get the watch lightly polished and look new again

It's a watch if I am doing something crazy like sandblasting or welding I take mine of and wear a beater. But for the most just wear it

Maybe on a PM I would feel differently and maybe because I plan to never sell on my watch, but isn't this what owning a SS model is all about? Maybe I am alone...
Definitely not alone. I serviced my 116710 this spring for the first time and had them polish it. After it came back I regretted having the case done. Not because it was a bad job but because it erased all the memories. I"m in the no polish club. As long as there are no monetary dues.

Don't mind the scratches on my stainless sports models. On PM they drive me insane.

I don’t obsess over scratches, but I don’t particularly like them either.

If they are minor on the bracelet can live with then, but if they occur on the crystal, polished sides of the case or the bezel that’s when they drive me nuts.

I have many scars on my body, some I remember getting and some I don't. To me they are all proof of a life well lived, like the scratches on my watch. This quote by Hunter Thompson says it best:

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

I will predicate my reply with the fact that I generally prefer highly polished bracelets/bezels (Daytona, GMT, AP) and practice decent wrist awareness. However, I almost always never really spend any time examining my watches for scratches. A casual glance once in a while at the bracelet and that's it.

My AD tells me that my watches are usually in pristine condition but that's probably because of my wrist awareness. Once they're on, it's go-time. Perhaps 95% of my attention is on the dial (which I use to tell the time) and that's it.

Maybe it's just me.
