Boston Trip

I'm going to be over in Boston for a week from Friday for a conference. It's my first visit and I wondered are there any (watch related or otherwise) recommendations for stuff to do.. What are the AD's like? Is there much Rolex Sports availability (I can probably guess this one!)? Any pre-owned dealers worth checking out?

From my experience the ADs are the same as everywhere else, with limited stock making a trip to them useless. I did however find the European Watch Co on Newberry St to be a treasure trove. I picked up a GMT from them too.

Boston Trip

Nothing in ADs. Have hit them all up including the ones around Boston. Even after confirming I was a local collector. European Watch Company will have everything you want but for grey prices. And they are on the higher side of at that too.

Edit: grammar

I agree with the prices. But definitely worth a haggle. They have a lot of wiggle room.

There are like 3 ADs basically within walking distance of each other downtown so it never hurts to stop in just to have a look if you're in the area. But supply is tough like everywhere else.

https://www.europeanwatch.com/ is a neat place as others have mentioned.

Enjoy your visit. Lots of other cool things to see in town.

Recommend going to Neptune Oyster in Salem St and get a warm lobster roll!

First, come for the food and the site seeing. It's easily one of the best towns to visit in spring. I'd recommend going into the North End for dinner one night, which is the Italian district (get your Cannolis at Mikes Pastry). Hard to go wrong with most places in there. If you like seafood, head to the Union Oyster House in Faneuil Hall, drink beer, have some oysters and even see the booth JFK used to sit in.

As for the dealers, the previous posters nailed it. Very little steel if any, but you can always swing through the Copley/Prudential mall in downtown. There is an AD in there and a Tourneau all within walking distance. Chances are slim you'll find anything, but I did see a Milgauss laying about one day.

European Watch Co has great people, but their prices are insane. You can download their app to get a feel for what they have and write them to haggle over prices. Plus Newbury street is always a nice street to walk up and down.

Enjoy your trip!

I second that. Their prices are on the high side, though.

For pre-owned, European Watch Co. is a must. Their prices are a the upper limit of the market but there is room to negotiate and the quality of their pieces is outstanding. Paul Duggan is a great shop as well, I've purchased several pieces from them.

Regarding ADs, you're not going to find much. I did find a 114060 at Lux, Bond and Green in December, they had it sitting in the window. They would probably be your best bet.

Shreve, Crump and Low is a nice shop with a good amount of brands (AP, Omega, ALS, Panerai, JLC, etc.) and they have some great used pieces as well.

All of these places are within walking distance of each other (like most things in Boston). Have a great time!

I'm not so certain being a collector is a good thing in the eyes of the ADs. Collector = Flipper, imho. I agree European is a great place to check out.

Newbury Street / etc is fun, and be sure to visit Albert at European Watch Company.

Head to European Watch Company. Not an AD but very reputable dealer of preowned and vintage pieces.

I doubt that you'll find any SS pieces on display at any of the Boston ADs but it never hurts to try. I would swing by Tourneau in Copley and check out their very nice store. Two sales associates named Mohammed and Paul work there and they're both great guys to work with.

I've had mixed experience with this AD. Some are knowledgeable, others are not. But they're honest and it's a nice store.

Agreed. They are snooty and have nothing anyway. No dealer does in Boston. They get the watches but they are spoken for and never hit the shelf. Only way to get one is to have a relationship and even then you have to get lucky

I got a blnr there last year after casually going in and asking. For me was a really good experience.
