Best Ceramic Radiomir
Ceramic Panerais don't seem to get a lot of love, but I guess in general ceramic watches are not particularly enthused over.
It may the price or the fragility of the case to dropping and the difficulty or impossibility to remove scratches/marks. Anyway I was just thinking is the Pam 505 to be preferred to the Pam 384. It seems that the automatic movement adds significantly to the thickness of the watch...:banhead: Anyway let me know what is your pick?

643 or 292 for me.
![]() Steve, FYI, the 505 is composite, not ceramic. ![]() |

OK thanks, sorry for the mix-up.
To me composite is even better than ceramic. I always thought composite was carbon fibre but according to Panerai composite is: Quote:

If you want the most versatility, I would go with a PVD DLC, which is a coating over TI. These watches are lite and less fragile (although they can still be scratched)

It's worth keeping in mind that Panerai's composite is a thin layer of material on top of aluminum, so a significant scratch will reveal the bright material underneath and it can't be fixed. That being said, it seems that it is pretty tough and the color is really nice. If you want more info, you could consider contacting Nick ("nick c"), as he has one and likes it a lot. As for carbon fiber, Panerai makes watches with something they refer to as "Carbotech". From memory, no Radiomirs are, or have been, made from Carbotech. ![]() |

I do require a date feature. I would like a carbon case watch as that is something I've never had before. Does anyone have experience with a carbon fiber case Panerai?????

I have never bought any carbotech as I don’t like how it looks (and the plasticky feel) but I’ve seen some users with dent on their carbotech case/CG

Radiomirs are my favorite but... It depends on the thickness of the case. The 45 and 47mm manual winds are perfect in keeping the feel perfect. I did not get that radiomir feel from any of the automatics. Felt weird, anyway my 2 cents

I was recently looking at a carbontech at my local AD and noticed a big chip taken out of the crown guard. Probably sloppy handling by the store staff but still it made me second guess getting a carbontech.

The PAM339 with an 8 day power reserve is pretty cool. That sounds scary but as has been said there is no carbon Radiomir so I guess its not an option for me.

Radiomirs with the wire lugs are in their "purest"/"historical" form with manual and no date. For example, the 232. Going for a Rad, in my opinion, merits going for the purest form. The added benefit is a thinner case. Anyway, depends on what you want. ![]() |

The 643 wears amazing (thinner) and has that hobnail dial. It REALLY suits the ceramic case well.
I have had zero durability issues. Thing looks like the day I got it. ![]()
