Lots of reasoned, heartfelt responses here--on both sides. Just a thought. How many times have we read impassioned stories here of enthusiasts spending lots of money at an AD only to have them go out of business, or lose their Rolex distributorship. So much for 'that' relationship and the dreams of getting a Daytona. On the other hand, I know that relationships can pay off. After being a steady customer for 6 years, I was offered a beautiful black-dial 116500 by my AD in Dec. of 2016, some 8 months after the watch debuted at Basel.
By the way, of the Daytona C prices seen in recent months on the secondary market, the one quoted in this thread by the original poster seems like a bargain. If the watch & paperwork are legit, and the seller has a verifiable track record, I would say 'go for it'. There are too many top-tier athletes, actors, & musicians in big cities to compete with, lol. Just one word of caution. Don't try to avoid the sales tax. Buy the watch in person, and take it with you. There was a case reported here recently of someone being offered two Daytona ceramics, and then 'pushing the envelope' by asking them to be shipped out of state. When the shipment arrived, there were no watches, only a mailing label. Ouch. And I'm not sure if this was ever resolved. This could have been so easy to avoid. Good luck and keep us updated! Regards, -Rick. |

OP only YOU can decide wether it's a good deal or not.
Good Luck.

Should’ve..could’ve..would’ve.. it’s all right. You made the decision based on your intuition at the time. No regrets.

That is my personal opinion. Doesn't have to be yours or anyone's. I have not paid over sticker on any of my watches. But you are right, if someone think it is reasonable to pay $10k or $100k for something because he/she thinks it is worth the money, then more power to him/her.

Any negotiating power there? 17k brand new is great considering grey market. But something about that feels wrong. If I was in your shoes and negotiated it to like 15.5-16 I’d feel like I won :) Keep us posted with what you do! |

This came from an Omega AD....guess business has been rough for them as well, offering to serve as a middle man to a grey dealer
I’d stay away if it were me. |

I would have never guessed that prices would get to where they are now. Oh well.

I mean considering GM pricing, it's not that bad...but the question is, is it worth it?
