Air King/Explorer I
I have call AD's across the county can't find an explorer I or Air King.
Seems like every SS Sport model is gone as soon as it arrives. Is this an accurate ovbservation? |

It is the sad state of affairs. It is weird when there is a waiting list for models that use to adorn display cases not even a year or two ago. I think it really depends on the AD; there are some that go quickly but others that have them. Have you tried ADs in rural areas?

OP this may be a reflection of trying to buy in a large market. I bought my DJ41 in the beginning of Feb. My AD had just received what they described as 9 watches and there was an Explorer I in there—did I want it? I already had the OP39 so no. I bought the DJ. I went back a few weeks later and there was an Explorer I in the case (also an Air King). They said this was a different Explorer. I don’t know if they were confused but there was definitely an Explorer I in the case waiting for a home. I see others posting here about finding an Exp I/II so I don’t think it’s that rare really. Maybe try some smaller ADs. My AD says they get out of state calls every day.

I have seen them occassionally. I suspect you could get one with a small wait.

At home in Fort Smith, Arkansas and on vacation in Santa Monica I've had no problem finding Explorer, Air-King, both color Explorer II's and both Milgausses. In fact in Koreatown (L.A.)they still had a white Milgauss too!

In North Carolina finding an authorized dealer with the latest model Explorer in stock is very hard. Took a month form a local jewelry store dealer to get one in. Needless to say, I bought it.

I tried 3 AD's in LA, one in TX, and the one here at home in Nashville.
No dice on a 214270. All said they had em on order. Saved some coin and got one from Patrick @ OCWG |

It took me about 4-5 months to get my Air-King from my AD. I also called around to about a dozen different ADs in three states (Michigan, Ohio, and Nevada/LV) and none had one in stock. In my calls I found one AD with an Explorer I and one AD with a polar Explorer II. In each case the AD offered what they had as an alternative. I was tempted because I like both the Explorer I and Explorer II polar dial, but I really wanted the Air-King because I like its uniqueness. Apart from those it was pretty dry at all of them.
