This would be a great question for one of the Watch sites like Hodinkee to get an answer for. Interview several of the manufacturers and get them on record.

In 2012 I was looking for a Milgauss GV. I went into my nearest small, family owned AD from whom I had purchased an Explorer II a year or so earlier. I was a frequent browser and this was obviously well before the stainless steel shortage we are seeing today. They had no Milgauss GV in stock at that time, but the owner told me they would be getting a shipment from Rolex in 2 weeks time and there would be a Milgauss GV in it. She also seemed to imply that if there was anything else specific that I wanted in the future they could order it for me. I paid for the watch in full at that time as they assured me it would be in. They called me only a week later and they had it waiting for me with a ball cap as a gift along with some promotional magazines.
This was one experience with one small family owned AD that is no longer a Rolex authorized AD. I can't imagine they were doing a ton of business on behalf of Rolex as it was unusually located in a smaller military town I was stationed in at the time. |
