One less crown on the map....

Drove by my chicago area AD today and noticed Rolex signage replaced by Forevermark. Checked out “store locator” on Rolex.com and, low and behold, Naperville no longer has an AD. Have those of you in other major US metros seen your ADs lose their relationship recently?

Is this something that’s on the increase?

I had occasion last week to stop into a small market dealer I’ve been in a few times. They’re worried. They’ve been a dealer for decades but told me it seems like Rolex is more in their business each time the rep visits the store.
They fill an important to them regional role for the brand but will never have the sales volume of the bigger cities. And they know about the onerous build out requirements some places have had to do. I go there around twice a year and kind of expect this might have been the last time to see Rolex in the store.

I had a stopover in HK last week. I thought the best way to spend the 3.5 hrs was to try my luck at the huge Rolex boutique. So I went in and asked for any SS sport model - instead, the store supervisor sighed and complained that this is not good for business. He pointed to all his stock (which were all TT and PM, most of them classic models) and said that nobody wants them. People would fly from Europe, Asia to HK just trying to find the SS models. I spent the next 10 minutes listening to his worries then left for a cup of coffee at gate 30...

Ha. I’d like to think of naperville as part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Like the census bureau does.

Lots of money out in the Naps.... Surprised they pulled it. You should stop in and ask what the story is.

I bought a op 39 from the Naperville store back in march. When I was interested in another watch back in May, I noticed they were no longer a Rolex AD on their website. I called to ask if they had any inventory left, they said yes but they are no longer getting any new shipments in. She said they wanted to focus on jewelry and no longer sell watches. To be honest, the Rolex section of the store was outdated and I don't think they wanted to update it.

Maybe the lack of products is a type of strategic purge of dealers, so to speak, for the future........

I mentioned in passing at my local AD..a family chain..that Rolex had been chopping AD's from its list..
The look on the sales gals face was stern fear..as this is a very old business..and she has worked there forever..
I was surprised at the look..
I'm thinking about buying a watch from them..
But may wait until they possibly get nixed..and the Rolex discounts begin..as they are definitely old school..and not Madison ave..
But that said..they are the best AD I ever went into..
None of the usual bs there..just good people..
Rolex ..is out of its mind axing people like this..

Rolex is not adding any new independent dealers but only its own name brand stores or an additional location to an existing retailer.
