New watch, New member, New questions
Hi all,
I fulfilled a 10 year dream today and purchased a brand new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust. I went with the white face with Roman numeral face, Oyster band, and a fluted bezel. I did my due diligence and did some lurking around the forum before posting these questions so please forgive any repeats; 1. When I first got the watch I set it, the wound it 20 times. I wear it through the day, and then wind it 5-10 times before bed. Am I over or under winding the watch? 2. According to what I have read on the forum my watch requires 650 TPD. People seem to like the Orbita winder which is set to wind 650 TPD. My question is would another brand winder that can adjust to 650 TPD be just as good as an Orbita? 3. What should some of my considerations for the purchase of a watch winder be? 4. Does anyone have an opinion about the Hugh McCaulletts watch winder? 5. Is it important to purchase a winder that goes both clockwise and counter-clockwise? 6. What is the best watch polishing cloth? Thanks in advance |

Hi Nick,
Welcome to the Forum. Nice choice. If it's your daily wearer, no need to wind it each evening. I wear my Sub 14060M from 7.30 till 5.00 and leave it on the bedside table for the rest of the time - runs fine. If you want a winder your Rolex will wind both ways and most winders will give you more than you need. I use a Hagerty silver and jewel cloth but there are others available - use one with minimum abrasive content. Don't polish the brushed links. I have ordered a jewellers red rouge polishing cloth from the States - I will try this on my SS polished links and see how it goes. Enjoy wearing it. Post up some pix.

Hi Nick,
Welcome to TRF and congrats on your watch and your patience ![]() As Eddie said no need for a winder or manual winding if you wear it all day every day and just take it off at night. You only need a winder if you don't wear the watch every day and don't want to have to wind and set the watch everytime you wear it. |
