Icon19 ♛ 3 Essential Things You Need To Know Before Buying a ROLEX

Firstly, the technological innovations Rolex is credited with inventing actually already existed, but Rolex was able to incorporate preexisting tech into its watches and consequently force other brands to follow suit.

Secondly
, Rolex didn’t bring its watch construction fully in-house until 2004. So for 99 years, parts were outsourced and, even today, a few components such as the hands are made elsewhere.

Finally, and perhaps most surprisingly, Rolex isn’t Swiss. According to Watchfinder & Co., Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf wasn’t Swiss, the brand wasn’t founded in Switzerland, and the first watches weren’t made in Switzerland either.

Wouldn't be surprised if in a few years Watchfinder claim they in fact founded Rolex.

Hans Wilsdorf actually left Germany for England early on, and Rolex as a brand was started and ran out of England for many years. Not exactly sure when they moved to Switzerland. I'm sure that's in the video, I didn't watch it since my work network throttles video content...

Probably to avoid tax

My three "things to know before buying a Rolex":

1) you can't

2) well you can, but it'll cost a lot more than you think

3) if you buy from an AD, you may find yourself bringing it home with other watches / jewellery that you weren't expecting

Yes, the same way Patek is Polish brand . Rolex exists for more than hundred years, and short episode in England and Brit as a founder doesn't make the brand British.

What are the implications? Perhaps thinking out loud, as Rolex was founded in UK you suggest ROLEXIT? Mr. Boris Johnson should be the most appropriate person for that! ::::)

14 years in England. Not a short episode.

Created in Britain in 1905 with a move to Switzerland in 1919. So yes, Rolex was a British company.
