Newest addition to my rolex collection! enter the DSSD!!

so i have been bouncing back and fourth in acquiring one of my grail watches for 2009, when i was at 99% sure it would be a SS daytona in black face, i went to AD's around socal to try on the daytonas and made a promise to myself that for 2009 i would pick one up.

This past weekend i made the treck up to Northern California to pay a visit to my grandmother and aunt. When i had some time to drive around, i stopped by a local AD and they had both a black face ss daytona and a deep sea available. I tried on both and though the daytona is one of the most sought after rolex models, there was just something about the dssd that made me smile.

So about an hour or so trying each one on over and over again i decided on picking up the dssd. What struck me about the dssd is how unique and new the watch as a whole is, while the daytona hasnt really changed other than the clasp. My decision was further reinforced by the date function of the dssd. Owning a milgauss as well i have found myself at times missing the date feature that is present in my GMTII's. The feel of the dssd satisfies my desire for a larger case, and the glide lock clasp is just awesome..... i never want to play with spring bars ever again when adjusting haha.

enough gibber jabber on with the pics!

here some shots in comparison with my other watches. The size is just amazing to me, pictures do no justice and you really need to go into an AD to try it on yourself!!

and the shot versus the milgauss. The milgauss was my tallest watch at the time.

and my new 2009 collection photo

thanks for looking!!

thanks for the compliments everyone! i am wearing it today at work and the watch is actually very comfortable. I do not find its' size to be any more cumbersome then my gmtiic or milly. The weight though is significant but i am a lefty and my left arm is my dominant so no issues for me.

Do you store them as in the Rolex box in the picutures?

i actually have the gmtii and milgauss on rotation in 2 winders right now and the gmtiic is put away. I am alternating between the dssd, gmtii and milly at the moment for the week.

Good evening Brian,
I too purchased the DS; look in watch reviews under 2009 Sea Dweller Deep Sea for my review. In reading your review, a similar account unveils the same conclusion, how it makes you feel. I love looking at it. Feels solid on my small wrist. I know when I'm wearing it because of the weight. The 43mm size is perfect. I have a humble collection which I rotated on a daily basis. NOT NO MORE. It is a feat not accomplished by any other manufacture. It was developed and produced for a single purpose, of which I will never use. So far, it has reached the depths of my bath tub. I'm planning to enter the pool tomorrow, if the weather cooperates. We'll see how it handles the deepest part at 10 feet.

P.S. We are both very fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time for the right watch. Enjoy the experience.

Pony could you post a wrist shot of your DSSD? I have small wrists too and if it wasn't for this i would have started planning on getting this beast!!

I have posted pictures in the Rolex watch reviews under " 2009 Sea Dweller Deep Sea "
The photos also show the size difference compared to the SUB.

That is a monster beautiful but a monster, maybe too big for my wrist I have not checked. I may have to have a look soon at my local AD.

Thanks for posting
