Question for the Patek Experts

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a new time only dress watch from Patek Philippe and was looking to get some advice on what models would depreciate the least or maybe even hold its value.

I have a mix of various brands, a few vintage watches and a some contemporary, but they are all Chronographs or Perpetual Calendars.

I want to buy something that is simple yet classic so is there anything from the brand that I should be looking at.

They will all depreciate. But I recommend getting a 5196R

As mentioned above 5196 in any metal is an excellent choice and will depreciate less compared to other time only Calatravas. I would recommend 5196P

I'm not an expert but I think the 5212 will retain value well. However it's not time only.

If you get a SS Calatrava, you will have the best chance at value retention.

I would personally look at Lange, Vacheron, or even Breguet or JLC over a Patek Calatrava these days but if you're set on Patek, the 5196 in whatever metal you prefer is a safe bet, although it will certainly depreciate.

I do not know if Tiffany London sells Pateks but if you can pick up a 5119G double sign then it will retain or possibly increase its value.

Does the 5196P have a hinges case back like the 5227? There seems to be a clasp looking part on the case back.

No hinges, just press fit with a handle / lever to lift the case back.

I'd go for the 5212, but you will need connections.

The OP wants sth simple yet classic - ruling out the 5212 right there IMO. The 5196R or J is the way forward... if the OP is 100% sure he cannot live w buying preowned...

Another vote for the 5196p.
It has a unique dial, not available on other current models.

Op did not ask for which patek has caveman handwriting on it

agree 5196 pick your metal and buy preowned. Minimal value in simple patek. Almost recommend skipping straight to a pc for 40k.
