GMT bracelet durability question

Having owned a no date sub for quite some time I have become used to the brushed look on the bracelet links.

I recently bought a GMT which has a polished centre link oyster bracelet. It looked amazing when I first received it but it has now started to “scratch up” predominately on the centre links.

I didn’t buy GMT as a safe queen so I intend on rotating it with my sub and one other watch.

Does anyone else have some long term use experience on how badly these GMT bracelets deteriorate over time or am I just a rough owner?

Any thoughts welcome.

The get scratched. My DateJust with PCL, after 10 years of hard wear, looked like an entirely brushed bracelet. After a service, however, it was as good as new.

If you scratch it enough the patina won’t look out of place. But seriously, only lots of hairlines. No bracelet stretch after 10 Years on the GMT LN.

I personally like the sub bracelet on the GMT look best personally.

It happens with all bracelets. Polished parts get more matte looking, matte parts get more polished looking and eventually they meet in the middle. The watch still looks great though in my opinion.

I did not know that.

That’s pretty cool

I like plc's, and after 11 years of hard use the watch crystal, and bracelet looked worn and tired, also the watch was running erratically, so off to RSC for a service. Now all shiny shiny again. Don't worry about your watches getting scratched, they will, but a little TLC @ RSC and they are new again. Magic.

Ahhh the pcl dilemma... you can swap in a 97220 and keep your bracelet tucked away. Unfortunately a common thing.

I put a brushed sub bracelet on my LN. I like the PCL’s on my Datejusts but not a huge fan of them on the GMT.

It will slowly get hairline scratches even with careful use. One thing I can assure you first hand, that well-worn look is fantastic 20 years down the line.

It can be a bit bothersome for collectors who have many watches and would like their rotation to all look brand new. It is only visible to you though. The people around you won’t see the scratches on an otherwise newly cleaned watch.

Wait long enough and you won’t be able to tell the difference.
