Icon9 Cameras - price increase

Dear me... Nikon raised price by nearly 25%!
Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 VR was A$2300 now $2810
Nikkor 14-24 F2.8 was $2209 now $2599
Nikkor 24-70 F2.8 was $2170 now $2509
Nikkor 105 F2.8 Micro VR was $1090 now $1359
Nikkor 200 F2 VR was $5400 now $6929

This is ridiculous!

More like A$ not worth nothing...
I did grab the 14-24 and 105 but didn't expect the increase is so steep - kicking myself now...

I think many more items will go up in price as well. Our dollar doesn't seem to getting any better .

I read on another forum that the Canon prices had increased substantially in the UK probably due to the pound.

My camera guy warned me about increases back in October. Between October and January I grabbed everything I foresaw wanting over the next year, and I think I got out OK:

Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 $750
Canon 24-70 2.8L $1600
Canon 70-200 2.8L IS $2250
Canon 50D + grip + extra battery $1800

I don't expect the Australian dollar to bounce back for a while yet, but when it does I can go back to ordering everything from Hong Kong - at the moment the exchange rate makes it more expensive than buying locally, even with the price increase.

Nikkor 14-24 F2.8 1,450.00 EUR = 1,866.32 USD
Nikkor 24-70 F2.8 1,392.00 EUR = 1,791.90 USD
Nikkor 105 F2.8 Micro VR 715.00 EUR = 920.766 USD

Please note the numbers I put here were in Australian dollars - 1 A$ = 0.63 USD.
There are still a couple stores with pre-increase prices (holding prices until their existing stock has depleted) so there's still hope.

Prices of Japanese produced items will be going up due to the JPY being worth so much now. For example, in May 1 CAD was equal to 110 JPY, but now it is only 72 JPY. You may have read that Honda and Toyota have threatened the Japanese government with moving out of the Country if they don't control the JPY.

Thank you for the info...I stand corrected.

Not a fan of Digilux.

The Yen will continue to climb because most people are expecting USD to crash with the US treasury just printing money to ride out the GFC.

I'd buy/hold Yen if I had the money.

Yeah, but that's an updated model relative to the original M8. Also, I see the prices on the M8.2 as $5995 from reputable outlets like B&H.

I have B&H catalog and I don't know if there was an update to it or not.

Still love the film 'M' models too....Leica lenses are second to none!

The only good thing about the price increase is the resell value on pre-own lenses. I could probably sell my lenses for what I paid for them if I had too.

In that case these lenses are much cheaper in your country....
