I found that if I’m going to wear a watch for multiple days at a time I Need a date.
A year or so ago I sold a OP39 for a DJ41 for that reason

How many on this forum look at their smart phones ?
Before you swipe it open day and date and time is right on the screen so it doesn’t matter if you have a date or not .
Now in hind sight all my watches have a date

Whilst I respect the Submariner without the date, I personally prefer it with a date as it looks like something is just empty & missing.

Date complication is my most used. I own watches without it though. I’ve had three subs, all had the date, would never buy one without.

Absolutely "need" a date function... It is what makes the Daytona a non-daily workplace watch for me.

Disclaimer that obviously nobody "needs" anything on a watch, but it is an added convenience to me that I use frequently.

If you have a job, you need the date. Retired or independently wealthy ? Meh....

Neither of my 2 Rolex has a date and prefer those over one with a date. Just personal preference.

Started with a Sub and after a good few years decided i wanted a date feature. Bought a SD which i preferred as no cyclops. Fast forward a good few years and struggle to see the date.

So retired my SD and went back to my Sub. Really like the clean lines and simplicity of the watch.

The cyclops is necessary, but if you don’t already have one

Date is handy but not a deal breaker.

I actually feel more relaxed when wearing the No Date. Kinda like Buffet’s “Changes in latitude, Changes in attitude”, a No Date makes you more at ease.

Damn. That BLNR sure looks great on a Jubilee! 👌

A date is essential for me. One of my only gripes with the Daytona

For me the GMT and date function are the most crucial features. Often I find myself checking my watch for date even if i do know what date it is, its just a comfort thing...

Since purchasing a ND sub and making it part of my primary rotation, I've definitely missed having the date function. I need to know the date frequently at work and now notice that as I'm getting older I don't have the same memory I used to (i.e. quickly recall today's date).

I think, however, it's actually a good mind and memory exercise to now be trying to recall the date without whipping out my phone.

This is so true. Everytime I wear a watch without it I look down for the date several times a day. You don't realize how often you use it until you don't have it.

It's a personal preference imho. Have a Sub ND and love the classic styling and balanced dial sans-date, then there's the GMT and others... So your choice really, get both! :)

Interesting, the variety of responses.

Dates are nice, but I'm fine if the watch doesn't have it. I have calendars, cell phones and people that I can ask when I can't remember what day it is.

Used to think I always needed a date function until I picked up a Speedy Pro and realized I really don’t need it. Since then I’ve added an Explorer. Now only one of the three watches in my rotation has a date. If I really need to know I can look at the lock screen on my phone but this has yet to happen.

Ymmv of course but it’s not something I’d pay extra for whereas there was a time when I probably would have.

I don't need a date function and I very much prefer watches without a date.

Thank you! I really do think the jubilee takes an already beautiful watch to the next level. I am totally guilty of staring at this watch every chance I get.

I owned the SubC 116610LN, sold it and bought the SubC 114060, don't miss the date complication at all. I figure it's good for me to remember the date. But maybe the fact that I'm retired makes a difference.

I have the 14060M 2-liner and love it! Now that Rolex is coming out with a number of no date models, the date function doesn’t appear to be as significant. In order to keep track of the date, I simply use the bezel to mark the date of the month.
