Rolex Serial Number - Letters to Numbers...
Just wondering if anyone knew how many letters vs numbers should there be in a Rolex.
Specifically in a Sub ND? AD mentioned there should only be one letter - is this true? Lastly any views on Prestons as an AD? Experience with recent purchases? |

my 2018 DJ41 has only one letter, but that does not mean all do. Random means random and no AD knows everything about what Rolex does

Think of each alphanumeric digit as a base 36 number (10 for 0-9 and 26 for A-Z)
So A has a value of 10 and B has a value of 11 and so on. Asking how many can be characters is the same as asking how many can be less than 5. They all could or none could. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The "old" serial numbers have 7 digits with 1 letter and 6 numbers for example A123456.
The new random serial numbers have 8 digits which can be letters and numbers for example 123X456Y.

My no date Sub (that I bought new this year at my AD) has two letters. Random serials are random.

Exactly some have one letter others might have more, its just a random case serial nothing more, and every one unique to that case.

Is it really random or we just don’t know the logic behind the alphanumeric number?

I recently inherited a bunch of my Father's watches. Several Rolex amongst them. I given them to various nephews. But I've kept one because of its small size. Something has me perplexed. On the paperwork its box there are 2 sets of numbers. R16013320B6252 & then 9311418 When I search the 9311418 in various sites to look at its age, that # comes back at 1986 Yet when I search the R16013320B6252 it comes back as 1987/1988 Can anyone explain this?
Cheers, Keith |
