crystal for a 5513

Friends,

My 5513 needs a new crystal. I wanted to get an authentic rolex. However, a super dome has been picking my interest. Also, a german made regular dome is for sale at a good price.

Please let me know if you have any adviced based on your experience with this process.

I am open and will welcome any sugestions.
G.

Your in Pasadena. Call LA Watch Works, they can put a Superdome on your 5513, and they will properly pressure test it.

The original crystal on my 5513 was crazed and wouldn’t pass the pressure test. So I had LA watchworks install a superdome. Very happy with the result

Thank for the images. I think I am going to go with the super dome.

Is that a T39? Looks like it's sitting awfully high for a 19??

What OEM crystal would go on a meters first 5513?

Thanks.

I know they're expensive, but I see THESE on eBay for what seems to be cheap for an OEM.

1- No way to know if they’re real, you must buy the seller
2- no way to know what version of t19 he’s selling. I believe there are 3 factory original shapes made over time- superdome, dome, and service?

No. I believe T-39 acrylic Superdomes were only fitted on Sea Dwellers from the factory. T-19 Domes were the factory acrylics fitted on the 5513’s.

I was wondering how the prices are established for selling the tropical 19. Some sellers in eBay advertise OEM for $200 other well stablish repair shops sell them for $115.
In true honesty, I can not tell the difference between a Rolex and none Rolex after it is installed. Additionally, how are the German-made crystals compare to Rolex OEM?

I am about the send the watch to get serviced by a shop in Utah and would like to have a clear understanding before the work is done on my favorite watch.

Please advise if you have any input regarding part replacement and the t19 crystal.

Tnx!

An original superdome T19 can cost retail up to $1000.

I’ve heard good and bad things about any number of aftermarket ones. Even NOS factory ones can fail, since they could’ve been made 40 years ago.

Best quality acrylic replacement crystal that will maximize your vintage Submariner’s value and (most importantly) protect against catastrophic failure is a Rolex OEM acrylic.
LAWW will install a new reprofiled Rolex OEM “25-19” acrylic dome crystal with new gaskets and a pressure test guarantee for around $300.
The 40+ year old NOS original T-19’s are very rare and ridiculously expensive and have been known to fail due to “brittleness”. While far less expensive than the originals and Rolex OEM; they too can be prone to failure and IMHO are not worth the risk and will always have your watch possessing an “aftermarket” part that may or may not be an acceptable option.
Here is my 5513 MK1 Maxi with an OEM “25-39” super dome acrylic crystal reprofiled and installed by LAWW that not only looks great; but also provide great watertight confidence.

Is there a need to reprofile an OEM 25-19? Isn’t that the appropriate service replacement for the 5513?

Yes...”reprofiling” is necessary for a proper fit on vintage 5513 cases. Not a big deal; it is absolutely necessary to get a proper fit to pass a pressure test.
