Setting time on new Rolex movements backward?

Hi Rolex fam. Had a question out there. I recently was able to purchase a 2019 Deep sea dweller 126660 James Cameron and also a 2019 126710 BLNR gmt master II. I currently own the previous reference 116710 BLNR.

On the older model GMT master II, when setting either the hour hand or the time in position 2 or 3, when I turn the crown forward, (towards the 12 hour hand) the time would progress and when I would turn the crown backward it would go back. In the newer movements I noticed it’s the opposite where if I want to progress time forward I would rolls the crown back towards the 6pm position.

Is this normal?

You should be turning the crown towards you to progress the time.

Thank you for confirming, is this different for older models? My 116710 BLNR I turn the crown away from me to progress the time.

Thank you again for the reply.

That is correct. Just the way the new movement is designed.

Yes the 116710BLNR and Sub Date 116610LN, the time is advanced/progressed by turning the crown away from you.

Yes looks like its a backward step like the old cal 3035/85 movements.

31xx series movements go clockwise to advance the time forward.
32xx series movements(found in newer Rolex w small crown at 6 o'clock ref. 12xxxx) go counter clockwise to advance the time forward.

I prefer the older way, it was for the most part unique to Rolex and made more sense when setting the time. Not a deal breaker, just seemed more intuitive and natural that way.

I noticed the BB58 moves forward in time when you turn the crown towards you.

Not sure why they changed it

I know this is a minor thing but I dislike this aspect of the new movements.

It was a quick way to spot a fake. Rolex 3135 movements clockwise; ETA movements counter-clockwise. Need to be extra vigilant now... or buy from an AD (if you can get on the list).

I was a bit worried. I bought my deep sea dweller and the bat girl at the same AD within the same week and didnt check the movements. Thought i was bamboozled.
