Used a "gunslinger" brace for about 6 weeks, and again very painful when they removed it because of the movement ... but it also gets better after a day or two. Now I got almost all my range back and it feels good ... there is always a little pain but never more than 2 or 3 (on a 1 to 10 and they tell me it is normal for the first few months) so I can't complain. Therapy works great (when the time comes) so don't despair and do exactly as the doctor / therapist tell you. Good luck!
Good to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Been in pain for about a year and it was getting worse. Looking forward to getting the sling off in a month.

You'll be fine. I've been in pain for 8 or 9 months before going for the surgery. It is key not to rush the recovery. Take it easy and again, do EXACTLY as your doctor and (later) therapist tell you. The first week is tough but it is upwards from there and completely worth it. Another thing that was good for me (check with doctor) is exercising (stationary bike, legs) maybe starting on the third week or so... check with your doc (don't start on your own).
