My first was a sd. It is a great tool that you can take anywhere and you aren't going to think twice about if the watch can take it. Good luck.

Wow! Great to hear all your experiences with these two classics. Looks like you can't go wrong either way. Both of these have a huge following.

I've owned both and like the SD better due to lack of cyclops and the fact that it looks like a 14060 on steroids with the more attractive SEL bracelet as well. The 16700 is the king of comfort. It is so thin and light that it disappears on the wrist.

It's about your life style and functionality if you travel, do business in other time zones or have family in another time zone the GMT is the appropiate choice and the GMT hand will be functional and handy. If none of the above applies to you then the SD maybe a better choice.

If it was me and I did not need the GMT function I would look at a sub rather than the SD, it's thinner and lighter and much more comfortable on the wrist, in my opinion.

I have a newer 116660 deepsea and i can only wear it once a week or so its just to heavy on my wrist...the 16700 is classic , clean, daily wearer..if you have to choose i'd go for that one...however would like a 16660 in my collection !!

The gmt is 1991 model and the sea dweller is 2004. Both great condition with the gmt having full patina on the dial.

NO WAY I'd spend $5100 for a 1991 GMT.
Serviced this year? Box and Papers? (I know I know)...

16700 for sure. It dresses up or down quite nicely.

I would pick the SD for that price. That really sounds like quite a bit for the GMT.

Faced the same dilemna 5 yrs ago. Went with the GMT, without any regrets now. Wear it everywhere, and it works well in any condition for me. Perhaps one of the best purchases I ever made. There aren't many things you can say that about, but this is definitely one of them. I am a diver, but didn't make my purchase based on that point. I don't really wear a watch while diving anyway. Good luck in your decision.

For the first one I would get the GMTII. So many more options with inserts and different bracelets.

my vote is for the Brick with a Strap
SD would probably get about 8 mpg if it were a car

I say Go with the GMT 16700..it's the last of its kind; an original GMT in it's badging and functionality, fast beat movement, quickset date (unlike the 1675 or 16710) much thinner and lighter than the sea dweller, visually more flexible...you do what I do... My 16700 daily wear watch has it's summer colors (Pepsi) and its more formal winter coat (black) to change things up.

The issue of your concern about the bracelet is easily mitigated; buy a Rolex oyster Sub 93150 with the flip lock clasp. This watch did come from Rolex in this configuration as well as the standard GMT oyster.

Buy a 93150/501B or 78790/ both oysterlock bracelets and then sell the 78360 bracelet the watch comes with here in TRF classifieds. You will solve your problem without spending a lot of $$$ when you net the effects of the purchase and the sale together.

My vote is SD but as you can see I'm operating with some bias... Best Rolex ever made IMO and soon to be a hard to find classic

bought the last gmt pepsi m serial that my former ad had for less than than the one you are looking at.in 2008 msrp i beleive was $5100?sd is a great watch.i have a large wrist so the heft of the watch doesnt bother me,it actually feels very good when i wear it.my vote would be the sd for its classic styling.
