gmt pepsi 16700 or 2004 sea dweller

I am a lurker on here and honor your opinions. I have a choice between
these awesome models and wonder which would be the better choice. They are both are singing to me. Would love to own both but can't at the moment.

The only thing that bugs me is the cheap feeling clasp on the gmt. I doubt I will have a problem with it unless I go diving with it but it doesn't feel substantial.

I just feel the need to own one of these classics.

Myself I would go for the 2004 Seadweller. Now if it was a 16710 which has an adjustable hour hand then I might go to the GMT. The 16700 24 hour hand is in sync with the normal hour hand. Different time zones are set by using the bezel. More information is here: http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=31386 thanks to Larry (Tools).

A 16710 with a pepsi dial is just a nice splash of color. The SD has more wrist presence due to the weight and a clean face as it doesn't have the cyclops (wart on its face). A gosh more comfort with the GMT, but both are comfortable. Both really nice watches.. my favorite Rolex sport models; tough choice.

For work or play? For play I'd recommend either, though would slightly prefer the SD given it's heft and overall feeling of solidity - that watch can take a beating! For work, I'd go GMT as the SD will constantly catch on your shirt cuff and likely force the cuff to sit above the watch. Of course, if you don't wear long-sleeved shirts and/or suits to work, it won't matter much.

Note that the SD (mine at least) feels a bit top heavy, and so rarely sits "ideally" on the wrist. That's a bit less of an issue with the GMT. Also, the SD "looks" smaller than a GMT - fairly noticeable difference, visually, IMO.

The gmt has patina on the dial which makes it look different which I like although I would have to give up the lume for the look.

Thanks George maybe I will take a look at the 16710's as another option although I like the fact that the 16700 is more rare.

SD is a future classic...it's not too comfortable IMHO for everyday wear.

The GMT would be a better choice for everyday wear plus I love my GMTII/ExplorerII's because how easy it is to change the time. Love that feature.

If your going to wear every day...GMT.
If this is your weekend, Vacation HE Man watch...SeaDweller.

There is no right answer but that's mine.

Get the Rolex GMT Grand Master 2. The Rolex Sea-Dweller might be very heavy on the wrist. That is like Rolex Submariner but bigger.

On second thought. If want a watch that is meant to get wet all the time. Get the Rolex Sea-Dweller. Some days, that all I am around is water. You only really need to know the time locally anyway.

Tough call but I personally would get the SD. To each his own and taste is subjective to each person with a choice.

I'm more of a fan of dive watches, so sd for me. Best of luck with your decision!

Unless you are planning on using it specially for diving I would go for the 16700

P.S- I do have a thing for GMT's so mine is a very bias opinion

My humble opinion tells me the Sea Dweller is the greatest Rolex ever made, followed closely by the LV.

The GMT can be worn anywhere, any time...

The SD, although nice, is more like a brick with a strap...

I'm fortunate enough to own both models! With that said, the GMT is more comfortable for wear & the SD is more robust & a tad bit heavier! Both are great watches, but I find the GMT more comfortable for longer wear!

For whatever reason, I have somewhat overlooked the pre-ceramic Seadweller. That said, now that it is no longer being produced, I am VERY MUCH into it. My vote... SD!!!

You can't go wrong with either. But I would start with the GMT if you aren't a diver.

GMT 16700 without-a-doubt. It was a very limited production watch and was discontinued many years before the SeaDweller. It is tough finding a 16700 that is complete with all of its original accessories, which is what I would go with.
